Strategy & Government Advice (S&GA) comprises a number of Programme-facing and cross-cutting teams. The role is based within Natural England’s Planning Team in S&GA. It offers an exciting opportunity to deliver ambitious conservation outcomes and be at the heart of Natural England’s response to a changing planning system.

The Strategy & Government Advice Team supports Natural England’s aims by:

- Providing advice, support and delivery of work for the four programmes
- Advising Government on the development of its environmental policy relevant to our remit
- Developing and delivering new programmes and pilots for the government to support major strategies such as the 25-Year Plan
- Leading stakeholder relationships with key national-level partners
- Developing internal standards and guidance on novel issues

Job description

**Impact Risk Zones Lead Adviser**

We are recruiting a Lead Adviser to support Natural England’s Impact Risk Zones (IRZs) project. This is an exciting and strong development opportunity to be involved in the maintenance and evolution of a national, business-critical resource that supports the delivery of planning advice and contributes towards planning reform and business improvement work across Natural England.

We are looking for an individual to work alongside and support the project’s senior advisers. The role will include implementing the regular updates to the information made available through the IRZs and contributing towards developing the IRZs to improve their functionality and provide automated standard advice. This essential work will help reduce the volume of planning consultations received by Natural England, enabling the provision of more targeted advice on high value casework.

**Key Tasks and Principal Accountabilities**

Contributing towards the implementation of regular updates to the IRZs that support planning reform and business improvement work.

Contributing to the reform project to develop the IRZs to help to change how Natural England responds to planning casework and enable area teams to focus on high risk/high opportunity and strategic casework.

Managing the IRZs mailbox including alerting the relevant IRZ senior adviser to queries, responding to queries from internal and external customers in accordance with Natural England’s customer service standards and logging responses.

Managing and updating the internal and external communication channels and assisting with the production of internal and external communications that set out changes to the IRZs to maintain strong working relationships with customers.

Attending project meetings and contributing towards the organisation, content and functioning of internal IRZ network meetings.
