This is registrar-grade in a busy urology department based in Cheltenham General Hospital. We care for all aspects of emergency and elective urology, and as part of a large and supportive team, you will be caring for patients with a variety of emergency conditions including stone disease, haematuria, testicular pain and obstructed kidneys. Our elective service includes major urological surgery including cystectomy, prostatectomy and nephrectomy, and ureteroscopic procedures.

You will join our middle grade on call rota with 5 other registrars. The on call team comprises a consultant, registrar and FY1 doctor. You will develop you emergency urology surgical skills with our support.
Elective working includes 2-week-wait clinics and specialty clinics (including uro-oncology, stones disease, andrology, paediatric urology), and urologicla operating including transurethral surgery, laparoscopic nephrectomy, robotic urological surgery, ureteroscopy and PCNL.

Elective working includes assisting consultants in the operating theatre, where you will be given the opportunity to develop you surgical skills. We are a proud teaching unit with to Da Vinci robots (Xi/X) boasting a dual console. After appropriate simulation training, our registrars are given access to robotic surgery under supervision. You will develop you transurethral surgery skills, and we also have a busy ureterosopic/stone service. In clinic you will receive training in the assessment of patients presenting with symptoms including haematuria, raised PSA, scrotal masses and lower urinary tract symptoms.
You will contribute to the 1:6 middle grade on call rota with consultant support (including frequent consultant-lead ward rounds). With support, you will assess all emergency urology patients, including haematuria, acute stone disease, scrotal and penile pathology. You will be taught to develop you emergency operating skills.

You will be an integral part of our urology team caring for elective and emergency patients. You will work closely in a supportive environment with 3 FY1 doctors, core surgical trainees, clinical fellows and specialty trainee registrars, and 12 consultants. When no assigned to elective theatre, you will join our daily ward round which provides a rich learning opportunity to complete workplace-based assessments. You will develop you operating skills as detailed above. You will have to access to urological theatre to assist in a wide variety of procedures. You will form part of the FY1 on call rota working closely with an on call registrar and consultant, managing all aspects of acute urological pathologies.
Further opportunities include regular formal departmental teaching sessions and the option of contributing to audit/QI/research projects.
