Pre Operative Acp

The post holder will provide specialist advice and support of the highest level for all colleagues within the Trust and providing nursing led care for patients undergoing elective surgery. The ACP role will encompass direct patient care and will provide leadership to the Perioperative nursing team. The expectations will reflect the 4 pillars of advanced nursing practice, with the role holder delivering professional leadership, consultancy, education and training, service development, research, and scholarly activities within the sphere of pre-operative nursing.
Clinical workload
Exercise a high degree of personal and professional autonomy, drawing upon advanced knowledge and experience and will practice professional skills of the highest order.
Clinically manage and assess the physical and psychosocial needs of surgical patients providing accessible and expert clinical advice to patients and carers. This may involve highly complex information which may also be highly sensitive.
To assess highly complex patients in the High-Risk Anaesthetic Clinic using developed specialist knowledge in analysis, interpretation and comparison of a range of options for treatment
Frequently assisting patients, including bariatric patients to move without mechanical aids for the purpose of investigations where necessary.
To develop specialised programmes of care
Provide evidence-based information to surgical patients and carers to allow them to make informed choices.
To work as a Non-Medical Prescriber (NMP) within one’s own scope of practice and that of the Trust.
Provide leadership in the case management of patients undergoing elective surgery providing assessment, management & required follow-up. This will include decision making on any required investigations, admissions and interventional procedures appropriate for patients with co-existing morbidities or disabilities.
To work independently and autonomously. But to be aware of own limitations and when to seek advice and support form the surgical or anaesthetic consultant.

Human Resources Management
Act as the direct line manager for the pre-operative nursing team
Manage performance and attendance of staff in accordance with Trust policy.
Create a positive learning environment for all staff.
Participate and help the development of appropriate teaching programme for clinical staff throughout the Trust.
Promote the sharing of expertise and influence the development of practice.
Share expertise by acting as a resource for others.
Identify learning needs of nurses working in the pre-operative assessment clinics and ensure that appropriate learning processes are put in place.
Undertake competency-based assessments for new nurses working in the pre-operative assessment clinics.
Monitor health, safety and security of self and others and promote best practice in the clinical area.
To be aware of and adhere to Trust Policies and Procedures.
Implementation of policies and procedures providing advice on interpretation of policies.
Clinical Governance & Patient Safety
Support a culture of ensuring patient safety through regular monitoring that the legal obligations and that patient and other safety requirements for the area (s) of responsibility are being met. Ensuring appropriate challenge of risks and progress on plans to address risk.
