As operational demands increase, Nottinghamshire County Council are investing in the Countywide, 24 hour Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) Service. We are therefore seeking to recruit Trainee AMHPs to join the Team. This post is open to registered social workers, occupational therapists, nurses, and psychologists who currently hold the relevant professional regulatory registration.

The PG Certificate Approved Mental Health Professional academic course is set at accredited master’s level; you will attend Sheffield Hallam University which will consist of some university base attendance as well as remote learning. The course and travel will be financially supported by Nottinghamshire County Council. We will be offering full support through your AMHP pathway and the academic course, however, permanent appointment to this role is dependent on passing the course.

To support your learning, you will experience all aspects of the provisions we offer as a service. You will shadow the AMHPs during Mental Health Act assessments, complete nearest relative enquiry work and participate in AMHP Triage.

Upon your successful completion of the PG Certificate AMHP course, you will work towards being an authorised Approved Mental Health Professional.

**Our service**

Current service provision is comprised of the Countywide Team made up an AMHP Lead, two Full Time Equivalent (FTE) Team Managers (TM) and 18 Full FTE AMHPs to deliver a twenty-four (24) hour, all age service.

The overriding duty to fulfil Mental Health Act assessments is covered under Section 13 of the Mental Health Act 1983 (2007) which highlights the duty of a local social services authority to consider the assessment of any person found in their area.

AMHPs are mental health professionals who have been approved by the local social services authority to carry out certain duties under the Mental Health Act. They are responsible for coordinating assessments, exploring all least restrictive options to care and treatment and admission to hospital should a person be detained under the Mental Health Act 1983.

In addition to undertaking Mental Health Act assessments, the Countywide AMHP team undertakes professional supervision of other AMHPs within the district teams, provides training for up to 8 new AMHPs per year within the Council as well as providing training and shadowing opportunities to outside agencies such as hospitals, criminal justice and police. They play a key role in our multi-agency partnerships across mental health provision which focuses on a whole system approach to bed management, community support and prevention.

**About you**

You will be a registered social worker, occupational therapist or mental health nurse with a proven track record of commitment to professional development, and experience of working with people in mental health crises.

You must be committed to the principles of mental health legislation, with a strong focus on recovery and prevention principles and the promotion of human rights for people with mental health issues and their supporters.

You should have demonstrable experience in statutory mental health services, with a specific focus on risk management and multi-agency working.

They must also be aware of the Mental Health Act reform agenda and its potential impacts on practice.
