If so, at South Gloucestershire Council we have a number of Limited Term Contract opportunities open to you, to start in August 2023.

South Gloucestershire Council owns and manages an incredibly diverse portfolio of land with over 500 properties and assets ranging from investments including hotels, high street cafes, office and commercial buildings to schools, various infrastructure, listed buildings, farms, small holdings, nature sites and more. The portfolio also includes high footfall leisure and retail centres and the innovation and research focussed Bristol and Bath Science Park.

As an Assistant Estates Surveyor, you will have the opportunity to support the overall property management service of the council, taking into account the council’s policies and legislation and particularly its duty to demonstrate best value on all property management matters.

This is an exciting opportunity as the role will assist the team to deliver a wide range of services across our diverse portfolio of assets and projects. Projects and cases will include various land management tasks, landlord and tenant, valuation, purchase and disposal, rent reviews, leases and licences, case management and other property issues. You will be exposed to an incredibly diverse array of property related disciplines and scenarios and will have the opportunity to work with the regeneration and development team and property strategy team, as well as the estate management team, on exciting and interesting new projects and developments.

**What will you be doing**
- You will generate case reports for senior management to review and make decisions that will ultimately improve the financial position of the Council and provide a better environment for its residents, staff and visitors.
- The role will provide the opportunity to be involved in some more technical aspects of property management, including mapping and reviewing the Council’s existing land ownerships, working with third party ownerships to support wider Council strategies and supporting the Property Records on the property asset register.
- Work will involve the use of the council’s GIS system (Mapinfo) alongside more standard software such as MS Excel. Relevant training will be given on the Council’s GIS system (Mapinfo) and use of MS Excel to carry out tasks such as creating new separately identifiable property assets from existing historic property titles.
- You will develop solutions to problems and situations, identifying and reviewing the data and analysis to assess problems, to inform conclusions and solutions ensuring clear options and recommendations are proposed.
- In the role you will support with providing advice to customers about compliance, legislation, regulation, policies and technical issues ensuring that effective customer relationships are established and maintained, advice provided is accurate and understood.
- By taking a pro-active approach you will plan and organise your own work programmes ensuring that work is completed to set time scales and that service level agreements are attained.
- You will be supported through your APC with expertise from the team ( but this is not funded) with a line manager and a mentor in place to ensure you have the support around you to achieve. If there are any areas within your APC where you feel you would benefit from third party experience, we have a network of partners who we can work with to achieve this.
- There will be a big requirement to get out and about to visit our diverse portfolio across the region and engage with tenants, third parties, contractors and members of the public.

- It is essential that you have a degree in a relevant property related discipline and be aiming to work towards your RICS membership. We will support you on your APC journey with experitse but we are unable to fund this for you.
- It is key that you possess a keen interest in the world of property.
- We require you to have the ability to write concise and professional reports, so must have good written and verbal communication skills.
- It is essential that you have good negotiation skills to seek the best outcomes and also have good interpersonal skills to engage with others effectively.
- You must have a willingness to learn and have a can do and determined attitude.
- You will have effective numeracy and IT skills, particularly MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook.
