Communications Officer: Stakeholder Engagement

As Communications Officer you will be responsible for helping provide a professional Trust-wide communications service which works to establish and maintain good communications and relationships between the Trust and its key stakeholders including staff, patients, public, media and partner organisations.

You will be communicating with a range of stakeholders from staff, colleagues in partner organisations, patients and their families, the public via the media and others. You will be communicating via both internal and external channels and the focus will be on listening and responding as well as showing and explaining, which will including monitoring and insight work.

You will work with colleagues to source and create great positive stories which demonstrate how our organisation is living its values and achieving its vision to be shared via a number of channels including via internal channels, with our key stakeholders, via the Trust website, social media accounts and with media contacts.

Building and fostering relationships with colleagues in the Trust, partner organisations, with patients and their families and the media is key to this role.

Examples of the breadth of the work undertaken by the Communications and Engagement Team, under each of these workstreams, is outlined below:
**Supporting communications with patients includes**:

- Managing the Trust’s website and associated online presence.
- Creating, reviewing and revising a range of information aimed at patients and visitors including videos, patient letters, notifications, targeted leaflets and posters.
- Undertaking campaigns to raise awareness and change behaviour in line with the Trust’s objectives

**Supporting communications with staff includes**:

- Working with over 9,000 staff and volunteers to ensure two-way communications channels are in place and effective. This includes producing a daily bulletin, a weekly newsletter, a popular staff magazine, screensavers, specialist bulletins, announcements, posters; a staff facebook group, an app and running an intranet/extranet.

Maintaining mutually beneficial relationships with key stakeholders includes:

- Liaising with elected representatives including local councillors, MPs and Ministers.
- Leading on all major openings and events and Trust-wide consultation exercises.
- Connecting with thousands of stakeholders using our main social media channels.
- Dealing with hundreds of media calls per year.
- Advising the Trust Board, Senior Management Team and all staff and volunteers on issues.
- Producing corporate documents such as the Annual Report.

**The Communications Officer**: Stakeholder Engagement is a role within the Communications and Engagement team. The team works to the following strategic objectives:
1. Support two-way communications with patients, families and carers
2. Support two-way communications with staff
3. Maintain mutually beneficial relationships with all other key stakeholders
4. Support charity communications

**Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.**

Stakeholder Engagement
- Implement a planned programme of regular communication and engagement activity with key stakeholders such as GPs and MPs. This will involve preparing and creating regular newsletters, briefing material and organising visits.
- Ensure regular contact with key stakeholders to understand what their needs and interest are in relation to the Trust so that we can meet them.
- Support the organisation and management of VIP events and other visits
- Be responsible for developing a ‘fact file’ on the Trust including key statistics/data etc.
- Ensure all communications support the Trust’s culture, mission, vision and values and priorities and objectives
- Use robust evaluation processes to understand the effectiveness of communication activities with key stakeholders

Award writing and submission
- Map out all relevant awards for the Trust to consider entering and associated deadlines and review this annually
- Work with Executive Directors and colleagues around the Trust to identify individuals and teams suitable to enter these awards
- Work with the individuals and teams to write and submit award entries and supporting information ensuring all entries meet the criteria and at least 30% of all entries are shortlisted.

- Implement effective campaigns to change attitudes and behaviours in line with the Trust’s objectives
- Design and use cutting edge content to do this including rich visual content such as images, video and text, particularly on social media.
