Ward Housekeeper

The post holder will be the key person to meet and greet our patients and relatives, orientating the patient to the ward on their arrival. To be responsible for the co-ordination of all patient facilities during their stay. To work as a key member of the ward team, assist the Hospital Matron where and when necessary in key areas. Develop and maintain a clean, safe and comfortable environment in ensuring quality standards.
To ensure that there is a high standard of cleanliness within the ward area and assisting where necessary in maintaining and monitoring cleaning standards on the ward. Ensuring that the environment and equipment is well maintained, safe, welcoming, comfortable and reassuring for patients, visitors and staff

Cleaning
To ensure that there is a high standard of cleanliness inputted in all areas and assisting where necessary in maintaining and monitoring cleaning standards on the ward. Participate in all cleanliness audits.
To call the Laundry in the event of curtain changes or assist in change when needed.
Check all patient lockers are clean and tidy.
Beds and lockers to be cleaned on discharge and checklist completed (to be checked with Sodexo).
Maintaining the Environment
Ensure that the environment is well maintained, safe, welcoming, comfortable and reassuring.
Check and change water in flower vases.
Ensure that leaflet racks and all notice boards are tidy and holds current information only.
Equipment
To ensure that all clinical equipment is in good working order and report any defective equipment following Trust Policy/Guidance. The ordering and cancellation of any stores/equipment orders as required networking with the relevant department/company and document. Maintain a clinical equipment inventory.
Catering
Supports the ward team in assisting where necessary - support protective meal times.
Assist with patient where/if necessary during the patient mealtime.
Linen
To ensure that there is sufficient clean linen to meet patient’s needs, reports any problems to the appropriate Manager.
Ensure that patient bed linen is put away neatly in the ward linen cupboard and make sure that the cupboard is kept clean and tidy and appropriate linen and bags are available for the ward. Check that patient clothing is clearly identifiable.
Control of Infection
To work in line with the Infection Control and Prevention in ensuring that the risks of cross infection are minimised. To undertake audits as required under the supervision of the Hospital Matron.
Communicating
To maintain effective communication to ensure continuity of patient care. Ensure all patients/carers receive the ward information booklet on arrival.
Check the ward diary on a daily basis. What does this relate to?
Fill in the compliment forms as required and keep records.
Undertake patient satisfaction audits as required under the supervision of the Hospital Matron.
Make sure that temporary signage is clean, replaced or removed.
Health & Safety
To ensure that the care environment complies with current Health & Safety regulations and assist with the health and safety audit for the ward. Check that the fire board is up to date completion of the bed and locker audits. Completion of monthly mattress audit and report findings to the Ward Manager.
Supplies
Order all supplies for the ward requirements and ensure that all necessary supplies are available at all times.
Put away / box all stores when delivered to the wards and make sure that they are identifiable and easily accessible for the nursing team.
