London, United Kingdom Wellcome Trust Full time

Salary: £41,639

Closing date: Thursday, 30 March 2023

Contract type: Permanent

The Wellcome Trust is a global charitable foundation. We improve health for everyone by funding science, leading policy, and advocacy campaigns, and building partnerships.

We plan to spend £16bn over the next ten years, funding new discoveries in life, health, and wellbeing, and taking on three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease and climate and health.

These challenges need the bold science we support, but they won’t be solved by science alone.

Wellcome’s Corporate Affairs department works to build and sustain the understanding, trust, influence, public participation, reputation and brand that will help us to ensure that science works in the interests of the people we seek to benefit, and has the most positive possible impact on their health

We have an opportunity for an Insights Advisor to join our diverse team to lead on our insight operations, as well as delivering commissioned insight projects that meet our internal users’ needs.

Where in Wellcome will I be working?

Corporate Affairs is comprised of specialist teams that work in delivery teams; Planning & Insight, Public Participation, Funding & Partnerships, Communications, Campaigns and Brand. You will be working in the Insight Team, alongside colleagues in Planning & Insight - who are made up of strategists, insight leads, delivery, and planning teams

What will I be doing?

You will have a dual focussed role - leading on the management of our insight operations so that the Insight Team can deliver excellent insights from ideation to take up (about 40% of your time). You will also use your global research skills to commission, deliver, and enable the take up of insight projects on our key audiences and stakeholders; science researchers, fundees, policy makers, and the public affected by our priority health areas (about 60% of your time).

Insight covers the full spectrum of; contextual insight on a problem or opportunity space, delivering insight which helps our teams to develop engagement and communication solutions for our audiences and stakeholders, through to tracking the impact and effectiveness of our work in Corporate Affairs.

As an Insight Advisor you will:
- Maintain and create guidelines and templates that enable us to track our projects, progress, spend and communicate with wider department and our business partners, as well as ensuring compliance with internal and external governance.- Support knowledge and insight asset management in collaboration with other teams- Lead on relationships with our internal business partners and ensure that keep our partners informed about our work - planning, budgeting, procuring, and contracting.- Support, lead, and advise on strategic mixed method research projects that generate rigorous and actionable insights. This includes pre-testing, measurement, evaluation and learning- Summarise and synthesise research findings across projects and create engaging insight products for internal users of those findings.- Contribute to practices that ensure our work in the Insight Team is inclusive, equitable, and culturally fit. Build in work and practice from colleagues in our CEDI team (Culture, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) - such as our anti-racist and anti-ableist principles.

Is it the job for me?

Motivated by a fairly blank canvas and inspired by the work of the Research-Ops community you will play a critical role in establishing and maturing the processes that make for great research, from the development of guidelines and templates, governance, forecasting, and communication with our internal business partners on finance, procurement, contracting, compliance, to insight asset management, knowledge management.

You will also have a passion for the delivery and potential use of insights too. You will relish coming up with effective ways of synthesising and getting insights seen by and taken up by our internal users. Perhaps you come from an agency background in which you have become especially skilled at delivering incisive and engaging insight products for time-poor clients.

You are someone who thrives on working in diverse and multidisciplinary teams. You bring a strong applied research background.

To be successful in this role we are looking for someone with experience of:
- Setting up and running ResearchOps in an agency or NGO setting- Working in multi-disciplinary teams to commission/deliver actionable global research projects using a broad range of traditional and innovative, and inclusive research methodologies.- Pre-testing concepts, evaluating work, and measuring impact of communications and public participation programmes.- Communicating complex information clearly and persuasively to colleagues without technical expertise, and to frame insights so that they are actionable and easy to use.- Contribute to a diverse and inclusive culture across the organisation, working acro
