Your new role
Job Purpose
To provide project financial monitoring and forecasting across a large portfolio of research projects and programmes within the department. This will involve close working with Centre Manager, Research Administration Manager, the research team, project partnersincluding Centres outside of the team and the organisation. You will be required to prepare regular reports for funders and the management group and Partnership Governance Board.
The post-holder will be responsible for establishing and administering processes to enable the efficient financial and HR record keeping for all research projects, working closely with the Principal Investigators, the professional services team, and other departmentsas needed.
Key Duties
- Provide professional advice and guidance on systems, processes and procedures to internal and external customers, using judgement and creativity to suggest the most appropriate course of action, and ensuring complex and conceptual issues are understood.
- Investigate and analyse specific issues within the research projects and programmes, creating recommendation reports, supported by programme and financial management tools and techniques.
- With the support and oversight of the Research Administration Manager, ensure that the coordination and financial management of projects is delivered effectively, proactively changing the delivery according to customer and funder requirements.
- Collaborate with others in order to make recommendations for developments of established processes and procedures - e.g. Setting up effective new Excel systems to monitor and reconcile complex budgets.
- Establish working relationships with key contacts, developing appropriate communication links with the internal stakeholders and outside bodies as required. This will include development of relationships with a range external stakeholders and colleagues throughoutthe organisation itself.
- Create specific working groups with staff from within and beyond the institution, in order to provide effective record keeping and coordination of a large number of project budgets.
- Work closely with the Research Administration Manager, the Research Centre Manager and the professional services administration team to ensure administrative work is carried out and delivered to agreed deadlines.
- Work with the Research Admin Manager to complete HR-related paperwork for staff contractual changes related to the centre's portfolio of research projects
- Liaise with appropriate internal and external colleagues to review research proposals and reports to be considered for submission
General Duties
- Ensure that an understanding of the importance of confidentiality is applied when undertaking all duties.

- Perform other duties occasionally which are not included above, but which will be consistent with the role.
What you'll need to succeed
Qualifications and Education
- Degree/NVQ 4 or equivalent Professional membership/experience
- Substantial experience of working within finance project / co-ordination / management, to include monitoring and forecasting of project budgets and resources.
- Ability to demonstrate professional knowledge within project and financial administration to give advice and guidance to internal and external customers.
- Ability to set up standard office systems, procedures and processes, including the set-up of operational agreements, and to proactively make improvements as appropriate
- Ability to communicate conceptually detailed and complex information effectively and professionally with a wide range of people.
- Evidence of ability to explore customers' needs and adapt processes and service accordingly to ensure a quality service is delivered
- evidence of ability to solve expansive problems using initiative and creativity; identifying and proposing practical solutions and resolving problems with range of potential outcomes.
- Evidence of demonstrable knowledge of project and financial coordination, proven knowledge of and experience using MS Excel at an intermediate - advanced level
- Evidence of ability to work unsupervised to deadlines, planning and setting priorities for own work and that of others and monitoring progress.
- A willingness to undertake further training and development.

**What you'll get in return**
Hybrid working is available for this role, 2 - 3 days office, 2 -3 days from home. The role pays £15.76 per hour and it's 35 hour working week, Monday to Friday. There is a little bit of flexibility on start and finish times. This a temporary role to startASAP, and is anticipated to last 2-3 months initially with a possible extension.
