We have a vacancy for a PCE CfD Senior Counsellor 0.5 wte to join the Senior Counsellor team who help support the Counsellors in Sheffield Iapt to deliver Counselling in 3 of the evidence based Counselling modalities.

As a Senior Counsellor, the purpose of this role is to provide leadership in one of the evidence-based modalities that Counsellors deliver. This is in line with NICE guidance and the IAPT manual, for adults experiencing depression that meet suitability criteria to benefit from IAPT.

To provide leadership on suitability for accessing evidence-based modalities and to lead on supervision plans for evidence-based modality in line with the service policy.

Sheffield IAPT established in the first year IAPT was launched and has continued to develop and expand over the years. There is a large counselling team in Sheffield IAPT and Counselling is a valued part of the IAPT model with many CPD opportunities.

General requirements

**In clinical work undertaken**:
To meet the National IAPT standards which include an individual minimum 50% recovery rate and to meet 20 clinical contact hours (pro-rata) per week.

To ensure productivity expectations are met in line with the National IAPT manual.

To meet patient needs by working across Sheffield according to demand, offering flexibility with appointments where possible.

To enable duties to be carried out the Senior Counsellor roles are 0.5wte for each evidence-based modality.

Offer professional advice and support to the referrers and IAPT colleagues in Primary Care on all aspects of Counselling.

Work autonomously within professional guidelines and best practice IAPT guidelines.

Liaise as appropriate with IAPT colleagues, GPs regarding concerns and the treatment outcome.

Support the use of data within the evidence-based modality to reflect, guide and improve practice and performance of Counsellors in conjunction with supervision. Collaborating with the professional lead counsellor to organise Counselling forums and CPD events.

To attend a monthly professional counselling supervision with the Professional Lead Counsellor, Clinical Director and Senior Clinical and Operational Manager in line with other professions within the service. The purpose of this is to ensure two-way feedback from Counsellor forums, ensure clinical governance, objective setting and developments.

Principal duties

**Clinical Work**:
To assess and treat people stepped to Counselling as appropriate.

To complete all mandated session by session outcome measures.

To have autonomous professional responsibility for clients referred.

To formulate and implement a counselling contract based on an appropriate conceptual framework of the persons presenting issues within the protocols and procedures established by IAPT (in line with NICE guidance, the IAPT manual and suitability for an IAPT service).

To recognise and assess risk (including child and vulnerable adult protection) and raise matters in line with IAPT/SHSC policy.

To manage all aspects of arranging and working with interpreters when assessed as necessary for the Counselling contract.

To sensitively communicate complex information to clients to encourage therapeutic engagement.

To ensure record keeping in line with Sheffield IAPT Standard Operating Procedures. This includes contemporaneous notes completed within 24 hours on the agreed patient record system, checking SHSC patient administration system prior to taking on new patients to check any risk or suitability issues and to send a discharge summary to GP practices once completed treatment.

To maintain a high level of clinical practice by attending your own Individual and Group Supervision.
