Are you passionate about helping young people transition to independence, specifically through SEN Transport? Do you work with children who have special educational needs? Do you have experience as a travel trainer for SEN Children and young people?

We are looking to recruit an Independent Travel Trainer to join Torbay Children’s Services and help play a central role in achieving positive outcomes for children in Torbay.

This is an excellent opportunity to join our new in-house Independent Travel Training service and help make a difference in the lives of children and young people.

**About the role**
- You will have a proactive approach and willingness to build effective relationships with our Independent Travel partners, Torbay families, other departmental teams, and key stakeholders across the organisation.
- The environment is fast-paced and demanding. You will need to be a good communicator, well organised, have excellent written skills, be empathetic with a pragmatic approach to problem solving.

**This post meets the requirements for an Enhanced Criminal Record Check. This will show spent and unspent convictions and adult cautions which have not been filtered in line with legislation, plus any information held by local Police that is considered relevant to the role.**

**Interviews are expected to be conducted during the week commencing 26th February 2024.**

**Skills**:
Essential:

- Organised, reliable, flexible, and calm.
- Map reading and journey planning skills.
- Able to travel on coaches, and public transport (including buses & trains).
- High level of communication skills in group and individual settings.
- Training and facilitation skills including utilising a range of tools and methods.

**As this post meets the requirements of the Immigration Act 2016 (part 7), the ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.**

**Knowledge**:
Essential:

- Knowledge of Independent Travel Training including Road Safety.
- Knowledge of how Children’s Services operates, inclusive of legislation and national guidance and procedures specific to this post.
- In-depth knowledge of different learning styles and teaching methods.
- Understanding of the principles of safeguarding children and adults.

**Experience & Qualifications**:
Essential:

- Level 4 NVQ Qualification in Social Care, Health, Education, Children and Youth Work, Probation or Criminal Justice or significant equivalent experience.
- Experience of working with children and young adults in a formal setting. This will include the need to deal with and communicate with service users who have learning difficulties and complex special needs.
- Working with a large group and individually.
- Facilitating learning and delivering training.
- Designing training and learning events.
