**FTE**: Full time position (1 FTE)**Duration of Contract**: Permanent**Salary**: AM1 £63,280 - £69,907 pa depending on skills and experience**Location**: College Lane or De Havilland Campus, Hatfield- The University of Hertfordshire’s aspiration is to transform its approach to academic/learning skills provision and is seeking an experienced individual to lead on the implementation of an enhanced service across the University. The postholder will lead on the design, delivery and evaluation of activity that will reshape the institution’s approach to developing students’ academic skills and ensure they are confident, independent learners at all stages of their university experience. We are committed to providing sector leading academic skills support services for students and to significantly improving the quality and effectiveness of activity and its impact and to achieving a clear and consistent set of outcomes across the different populations of students.**Main duties and responsibilities**
- The Head of Academic Skills Development will provide overarching strategic direction for academic skills support provision across the university and contribute to strategic planning in related areas. They will lead on the development and delivery of a new university academic skills development framework and lead, motivate and develop a new team of Academic Skills Support professionals. They will work across schools and business units to ensure the delivery of consistent levels of academic skills support to an agreed standard across the whole University and at all stages of the student journey. This is a new post with scope for the postholder to shape a new model of service delivery and have a significant impact on the student experience.**Skills and experience required**
- The postholder will have demonstrable experience of leading and delivering successful outcomes associated with the development of service provision in academic skills support, working with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders in a university with widening access at the heart of its mission. Experience of planning, managing and implementing strategic cross-university projects is also required with the allied ability to work effectively with colleagues from a range of disciplines. The postholder will be expected to bring experience of working successfully and directly with students to improve their experience and to be able to design and manage data to measure service delivery.- Strong strategic thinking, analytical problem-solving and project management skills in a Higher Education context are essential. The postholder will have an ability to interpret complex data (qualitative and quantitative) and to use this to inform plans for improvement.**Qualifications required**
- First degree and Level 7 qualification (or equivalents) or equivalent professional qualifications and experience are required, as is a relevant Project Leadership qualification or equivalent proven experience. Principal Fellowship or Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, or the ability and experience to work towards during probation is expected.**_Please view the job description and person specification for a full list of the duties and essential criteria._**:
