The UK MoD has identified the Babcock Rosyth facilities as the chosen locations for the initial submarine dismantling activities associated with its Submarine Dismantling Project. **The role**
As a Health Physics Monitor, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will have the opportunity to develop your career with Babcock supporting the UK’s first Submarine Dismantling Project (SDP), providing a safe and environmentally responsible solution for the dismantling the UK’s de-fuelled nuclear-powered submarines after they have left service with the Royal Navy.
Day-to-day, you’ll carry out health physics monitoring duties to ensure the company complies with the Ionising Radiation Regulations in regard to Radiological Control, Radioactive Waste Management, Contingency and Nuclear Emergency Arrangements.
Monitoring duties are as required by the Departmental Instructions which include environmental sampling, clearance surveys, the process and disposal of radioactive waste, detection, measurement assessment and control of exposure to ionising radiations, routine testing of HP instrumentation and to carry out duties in an emergency in accordance with the Company Nuclear Emergency Plan.
The Health Physics Monitor reports to the Health Physics Operations Manager who will ensure they carry out their duties in accordance with the Head of Nuclear Safety management policy and procedures.
**Essential experience of the Health Physics Monitor**:
- Ideally, you will have proven practical experience
- Submarine experience is desirable
- You will have motivation and ability to work alone on shifts
- You will comply with company safety and environmental policies and to work compositely within the Health Physics Department.
This role is 37 hours per week, Monday to Thursday, based onsite at our Rosyth site, with paid overtime and options for shift work with additional shift allowance.
**Qualifications for the Health Physics Monitor**:
- To be considered, you must hold City & Guilds Stage 1 Radiation Safety Practice or NVQ level 2 Radiation Protection.
- You must be able to achieve Security Clearance and NNPPI for this role.
