The role of the Stroke Data Administrator is to be responsible for the provision of comprehensive,
efficient, and effective data management for the Acute Clinical Stroke Service; enabling the
delivery of a high-quality service to patients and allowing medical and nursing staff to focus on
direct patient care. The post holder will gain an in-depth knowledge of the stroke databaseSentinel Stroke National Auditing Programme (SSNAP) and will be required to extract and
input data from the patient’s medical notes/care pathway onto the stroke database. Additionally,
the post holder will be required to provide data as requested, under the supervision of the Clinical
Stroke Specialist Nurse/Matron for Stroke and liaise with all members of the multi-disciplinary
team.

You will be based at Care Group 3 which is located Southend. You will generally be expected
to undertake your normal duties at the principal place of work, however, in the course of your
duties you may also be required to work at any of the sites within the Mid and South Essex
NHS Foundation Trust areas as well as other NHS sites as part of the delivery of the service.

The post holder will provide an efficient and effective administrative service. They will be
required to work as part of a team, have a flexible and professional attitude to work and
provide cross cover during periods of absence. They will work closely with the department’s
secretaries, clinical leads, clinical personnel, stroke support personnel, SSNAP
representatives and other clerical staff to provide a flexible and reliable administration service
to the Stroke team.

Communication
- Promote clear and effective communication between members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Answer and respond to enquiries from patients, relatives and visitors in the department / via telephone efficiently and politely.
- To provide quality customer care to relevant services and support in a timely, helpful, and pleasant manner, dealing with all enquiries effectively and sensitively, acting where necessary and escalating, if required, in line with Trust’s policies, procedures and guidance.
- Receive and distribute incoming mail and ensure outgoing mail is sent appropriately and in a timely manner.
- To work as an effective team member, networking and contributing to improve working process and practice.

2. Analytical and Planning
- Use a range of computer systems for various processes, including the updating of patient demographics and hospital activity, and using the information accordingly.
- Ensure accurate data entry to all necessary computerised systems, to enable the Trust to monitor the achievement of the Stroke Strategy
- Review medical records and ensure accurate data entry onto the SSNAP database in a timely manner
- In-depth knowledge of stroke and Transient Ischaemic Attack and understanding of best practice, local and national guidance
- Develop an in-depth understanding of the SSNAP database and be able to

demonstrate its use to others
- Under the supervision of the Clinical Stroke Specialist Nurse / Matron for Stroke,develop audit tools for the service use
- Assist the stroke team in the data collection for both national and local audits/research
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiological terms relevant to the speciality
- Ability to work independently to extract and analyse patient clinical records, and use own judgement to identify/translate information required
