This is an un-banded post with no on call commitment however there are opportunities to contribute to EGS and/or major trauma rotas which can be discussed on an individual basis should additional salary be required.

Main duties of the job

This post is designed for senior trainees who have or are within 6 months of their CCT in General surgery and have passed final FRCS exams (or equivalent). Senior trainees (UK St7/8) who feel they need additional HPB experience and are considering OOPE are welcome to make enquiries having first communicated with their TPD.

Working for our organisation

The HPB Surgical Unit at NUH manages patients with benign and malignant hepatobiliary and pancreatic conditions for Nottingham and surrounding areas. This is performed within a framework of a multi-disciplinary team where all individuals are encouraged to contribute effectively towards patients care. In addition to maintaining these high standards, there is a commitment towards research and the unit has an international reputation in this respect.

The unit provides specialist tertiary referral HPB services to a population of 2.5 million patients in Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, East Staffordshire and Derbyshire, as well as a local service for biliary surgery. The major surgical caseload included approximately 150 liver resections and 90 pancreatic resections, and a continued increase in major cancer and benign resectional workload is anticipated. The unit has two MDT meetings per week and a departmental planning meeting weekly.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful applicant will be attached to the regional HPB unit and undergo advanced training in liver and pancreatic surgery. The post will encompass delivery of weekday daytime activity at post CCT level at Nottingham University Hospitals. There is presently no regular commitment to an on-call rota and the post is only for daytime weekday activity however banding supplements from contribution to the EGS on call can be discussed on an individual basis.

**The salary for this post is the top point (ST8) of the Specialty Registrar payscale £49 086 per annum.**

Essential criteria
- FRCS or equivalent qualification
- Full registration and a licence to practice with the General Medical Council

Desirable criteria
- International Presentations
- Peer Reviewed Publications

Experience

Essential criteria
- Completion or within 3 months of Specialty Registrar training in General Surgery in the UK or equivalent in CCT
- HPB experience to final FRCS standard
- Logbook and work-based assessments indicating validated experience of appropriate range and number of clinical procedures

Qualities and attributes

Essential criteria

- Demonstrate ability to understand and communicate with patients and colleagues

Desirable criteria
- Demonstrate ability to undertake research projects and audit

- Demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication, as set out in the GMC’s Good Medical Practice (2013).

**Salary**: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.
