Work closely with the Strategic Projects and Funding Managers to link areas of

academic strength to external partner demand and strategic funders to develop

strategic, high impact projects which generate income, create impact, support

Research Assessment and Knowledge Exchange objectives and frameworks, and

strategically position the university for future opportunities. The Officer role will

support Strategic Projects Managers in developing substantial projects and

managing senior level strategic relationships and will have their own portfolio of

projects and partnerships.

**Key Responsibilities**

**and Accountabilities**:

- To develop and manage relationships with funding partners on behalf of

the university, participating in policy and strategy development processes

to ensure the university is well-positioned to participate in strategy and

implementation.
- To participate in partnership meetings, with a view to identifying

opportunities and unmet needs, catalysing collaborative proposals and

connecting university specialists with strategic opportunities.
- To engage with and manage relationships with partners to identify unmet

needs and spot opportunities for project collaborations
- To identify funding opportunities that support the University’s regional,

national and international projects and programmes
- To work with academics to help identify external funding, partner and

impact opportunities for research, knowledge exchange and income

generation.
- To provide dedicated external engagement, funding and project

management expertise to internal institutes and cross-disciplinary teams

identified through the university’s Research and Knowledge Exchange Plan
- To support the development of consortia to respond to address unmet

needs and respond to funding opportunities
- To develop and co-ordinate the development of business cases and
- Provide project-management-style support to a wide variety of funding

strategic importance to the University.
- To support the development of projects from idea through to bidding and

project set up.
- To ensure management arrangements are put in place for effective project

implementation.
- To advise on ongoing strategic project delivery, including through

participation in project steering groups.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to academics across the institution

and external stakeholders to support the development of funding bids.
- Provide strategic reports to the university executive and committees to

help shape the development of the institutional impact, innovation and

research plan.
- Develop networks internally and externally to enable researchers and

academics to grow research and KE activities, including organising

workshops and events.
- Manage internal budgets where available to support research and

knowledge exchange project development and implementation.
- Seek out best practice in innovative uses of funding in an HE context.
- Manage funder submission online systems and ensure the correct and

timely institutional approval on behalf of the university;
- Provide advice to stakeholders in relation to University policy, procedures

and regulations;
- Lead, manage, develop, plan and deliver funder/scheme specific

information events and grant delivery workshops for stakeholders;
- Provide training and or instruction to stakeholders (project management,

finance, grant writing);
- In consultation and collaboration with University’s Legal Support team

review draft agreements and contracts received from sponsors and

negotiate appropriate changes, ensuring consistency and adherence to set

standards, aiming to achieve the best possible terms for the institution;
- Undertake due diligence and risk management activities and propose

actions to mitigate risk to ensure contracts and agreements are in

compliance with university policy and governance regulations (for example

ethical approval);
- Analyse data and provide reports to Service Executive and University

Executive, making recommendations for improvement as appropriate;
- Ensure the review and improvement of systems and procedures in line with

University frameworks.

**Special Circumstances**:This role may entail local and national travel including occasional overnight stays.

The ability to travel independently to a variety of locations is required.
