**Overview of project/role**

We are looking for customer focussed and positive people to be the face of TfL as front-line representatives on our network.

You will care for our customers, collaborating with bus drivers, local stakeholders and the police, ensuring the smooth and safe running of our services, whilst representing TfL and protecting its image and reputation.

As a Network Traffic Controller, you will ensure that all measures are taken to mitigate the effect of disruption to London’s bus services, and that they are planned and implemented to best effect, monitoring progress to ensure continued safety and suitability, and that normal operations are resumed as soon as possible. You will support the smooth, efficient operation of bus stations, interchanges and other similar sites when required.

The work is varied, you must be self-motivated and detailed conscious to achieve results and you will be required to work on a planned rotating pattern.

There is excellent scope for development with opportunities to represent TfL at stakeholder meetings and deputise for management. Prior experience in a transport related industry is not required and full training and support will be provided.

**Key Accountabilities**

To implement the requirements of Service Delivery Managers, Event Planning Manager and other staff in the Bus Operations Directorate in respect of on the road response for planned roadworks, events, rail replacement services etc. This will include site and other planning meetings; drafting of information for bus operators, staff and customers; preparation of publicity and signage; preparation and posting of on road publicity; and arrangement and siting of temporary stopping arrangements etc. In cases where work is ongoing, maintain operational files and contact with appropriate people to ensure continuity.

To respond effectively and immediately when requested by the Network Management Control Centre to emergency and unplanned situations which impact or are likely to impact on the operation of the bus network and customers. Develop and implement emergency / temporary arrangements to reduce the effect on services, taking into account all practical and safety issues. To take charge and deal with the effects of incidents, including directing other TfL teams when drafted in to provide real time assistance. When incidents extend to become longer term events, provide information and reports as appropriate to the Service Delivery Manager to whom responsibility transfers.

Investigate, report and monitor incidents of crime, disorder and traffic delays affecting the bus network and assist in the direction of resources to mitigate any potential or actual disruption.

To ensure that any damage to roadside infrastructure; stops, shelters and stands; is made safe and that it is reported to the appropriate authorities for remedial action to be initiated.

Through real time inspections of ongoing diversions and temporary arrangements monitor their effectiveness, appropriateness, safety and make adjustments and improvements with the aim of minimising the effect on bus services and restoring normal working at the earliest opportunity.

When required undertake appropriate activities to ensure the smooth, efficient operation of Bus Stations, interchanges and other similar sites.

To supervise all London Buses unstaffed on
- and off-highway facilities to ensure safe and efficient use of the facilities, adherence with the Code of Conduct and environmental and social issues.
