The Luton Youth Partnership Service (LYPS) is looking for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to take up an established post. This is an exciting opportunity for a clinician who wishes to improve outcomes for children by embedding speech and language therapy into the multidisciplinary team within the LYPS.

Broad clinical experience, skills and knowledge, and an interest in working with children and young people who come into contact with the criminal justice system.

Operating as part of a multi-agency team, which includes health, education, police, probation, social care and the local authority.

This post involves identification at a highly specialist level, the types of communication disorders found in this client group and the provision and delivery of a range of appropriate interventions to the young people and their case managers.

The post holder will actively contribute to the strategic development of speech language and communication policy and provision within the LYPS.

The post holder will work closely with youth offending staff to facilitate their communication skills with this client group, and as part of this work will undertake training of LYPS staff to raise awareness of the types of communication difficulties faced by the young people and strategies to facilitate their communication.

The post holder will also liaise where necessary to develop and increase the understanding of communication difficulties and appropriate interventions with partner agencies in respect of those children known to the LYPS.

The post holder will provide highly specialist clinical input to this group of young people and advise on the development of services in this area.

SERVICE OVERVIEW

The aim of the Youth Partnership Service is to reduce the risk of child criminal exploitation, first time offending, re-offending, anti-social behaviour, reducing harm to children and young people and to protect the public from harm. The aim of our interventions at every level is to significantly improve the outcomes and opportunities for the children and young people in Luton.

In addition we work with high-risk families where children and young people are at risk of entering the local authority care system or where children and young people in care are at risk of placement breakdown. Work is undertaken with these families on both a voluntary and statutory basis dependent on circumstances.

Our priorities going forward are to ensure Luton is a safe place to grow up, live and work in and to enable children and young people to make a positive contribution to their communities and achieve positive outcomes for themselves.

**Job Purpose**:
This post is commissioned by BMLK ICB. The post holder will be based within the Youth Partnership Service in Luton providing a specialist SLT service to the young people working with the YPS and their families, the YPS staff and the partner agencies working with the young people. Developing the relationship and framework between the YPS and the PRU and other educational settings as appropriate.

The post involves identification at a highly specialist level, the types of communication disorders found in this client group and the provision and delivery of a range of appropriate interventions to the young people and their case managers. They will actively contribute to the strategic development of health provision within the YPS.

The post holder will work closely with youth partnership staff to facilitate their communication skills with this client group and as part of this work will undertake training of YPS staff, and partner agencies where required. To raise awareness of the types of communication difficulties faced by the young people and strategies to facilitate their communication.

The post holder will also liaise where necessary to develop increased understanding of communication difficulties and appropriate interventions with partner agencies in respect of those children known to the YPS.
