Band 2 Health Care Assistant

**Job summary**:
We are looking for individuals with or without health and care experience to join our small nurse lead haemodialysis team. As a Health Care Assistant your role would be to work closely with the other Health Care Assistants and the nurses to care and support our haemodialysis patients.
No experience? No problem as we will teach you everything that you will need to know for this role as well as offering 6 weeks supernumerary whilst your training is being completed. It is important that you are kind and caring person with a desire to help both patients and staff in the running of the unit. If this sounds like you then you may already have the attributes that are needed for a great health care assistant.

As you progress in your NHS career you will quire knowledge, skills and confidence that you will need to provide safe and compassionate care. With the right support, those who want to can also undertake the necessary training to become our future nursing associates and nurses

**Main duties, tasks & skills required**:
The main duties of the role include;
- working as part of the multidisciplinary team in supporting colleagues
- The setting up of the haemodialysis machines
- Assisting patients to weigh pre and post dialysis.
- Assisting patients with their mobility
- Delivering refreshments to the patients
- Stocking up of dialysis consumables
- liaising with West Midlands Ambulance Service
- To undertake clinical observation
- To provide and assist patients with personal care
- To respect people at all times regardless of age, gender, disability, race or religion
The list is of course not exhaustive and you may be asked to complete numerous tasks by both nurses and patients. You would be expected to act in a professional manner at all times and act in a way as to promote a positive image of UHB Foundation Trust.

**Qualifications**:
**Essential**:
- Care Certificate or evidence or Training & Development associated with Health Care Support Worker role
- Level 2/3 NVQ/ Diploma
**Desirable**:
- Functional skills Level 2 English Language and Maths Qualification or GCSE Grade C or above in Maths and English Language
**Experience**:
**Essential**:
- Minimum of 6 months experience in a care environment in the last 12 months
- Experience of working / participating as part of a team.
- Evidence of ability to work using own initiative and under mínimal supervision
**Additional Criteria**:

- Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the role and tasks involved
- Can articulate the reasons for training/ standards of practice and behaviour and how these may be demonstrated / relate to patient care and safety
