Congenital heart disease (CHD) is the commonest birth defect, affecting just under 1% of the population. Work we have done in UK general practice patients, using information predating mass COVID vaccination, has shown that patients with CHD who become infected with COVID-19 are at a greater risk of being admitted to hospital and of death. This project, funded through the British Heart Foundation Data Science Centre (BHF DSC), aims to determine COVID-related risk in CHD patients with a range of different heart defects, along with associated medical conditions, in the context of vaccination.
The role will involve analysing electronic health records (EHR) of patients in the UK to determine diagnoses of CHD and associated comorbidities. Key duties will include navigating databases, identifying cohorts based on diagnostic codes, and assessing associations.
