**Job Summary**:

As a Campus Support Officer you will primarily focus on general security related duties, including patrolling and securing buildings, recording patrols, and responding to emergency calls or incidents. You are expected to work effectively without supervision. There will be occasional requirement to undertake janitorial duties (eg room set up, occasional specialist cleaning etc) especially during the summer months.

We are seeking a positive customer focussed individual with excellent team-working skills. You'll need to be adaptable, remain calm under pressure and have an excellent awareness of Health & Safety.

To meet University operational requirements staff may be required, from time to time, to be flexible in their approach to work and to undertake any other reasonable duties as requested. You must therefore be prepared to alternate between roles when required. A uniform is worn while on duty.

Shift Requirements
For 42 weeks of the year, you will work nightshift security from 1900 to 0700, working 3 or 4 nights per week. During the remaining 10 weeks (June/July/August), the provision will involve some night shift and some day shift hours (Day shifts - 0700-1900). Operations change during holidays therefore some adjustments to hours may be required on occasion. For your nightshift hours there is an additional 12.5% allowance paid.

**RESPONSIBLE FOR**: No Line Management responsibilities

**PURPOSE OF THE POST**: Responsible to the Campus Support Supervisor, providing an efficient, reliable, user-friendly out of hours support service to both internal and external customers of the University, ensuring the safety and security safety of RGU premises, staff, students and authorised visitors. This involves undertaking a range of security and facilities-related services, ensuring high levels of customer service whilst meeting required Health and Safety standards.

**PRINCIPAL DUTIES**:
Customer Services

Point of contact for all building users, including answering telephones, mobile and radio calls from reception.

Liaise with other building users to ensure a high quality of service is provided.

Support others in the team to resolve any issues.

Ensure a high level of communication and customer care practices in liaison with all building users.

Service Delivery / Emergencies

Assist with special events eg open days, graduation ceremonies etc.

Set out rooms for events, conferences, examinations etc.

Undertake general lifting/carrying duties, including movement of furniture,etc.

Participate in local energy saving initiatives.

Complete incident, accident and patrol reports.

Provide a response to routine and emergency calls.

Provide rapid response on foot/by vehicle to incidents or emergencies - requesting assistance of the Emergency Services.

Assist with all University evacuation/emergency procedures and liaison with the emergency services.

Security / Health & Safety

Carry out regular internal/external patrols on foot/by vehicle of University sites and premises.

Ensure that buildings are vacated and external doors to buildings etc are secured. Set intruder alarms, record patrols and report faults.

Carry out regular checks on all areas of buildings ensuring the buildings/equipment are secure.

Monitor fire alarm & building management activations/intruder alarms.

Carry out any duties relating to CCTV in line with relevant codes of practice.

React appropriately requests for access.

Maintain records of staff and visitor access.

Deal with disorders/intruders, escorting them from University premises if required.

Record and maintain accurate records and produce written reports of incidents. (Within the context of the Data Protection Act)

Implement University procedures in Fire Safety, Health & Safety, COSHH, First Aid, etc.

During patrols, ensure that all exits, corridors and stairways are free of obstruction and emergency exists are properly secured.

Student Accommodation

Assist students requiring support.

Carry out internal and external patrols ensuring that any potential issues (eg loud music) are managed in a professional manner.

Deal with lockouts.

Report suspicious circumstances, unauthorised entry, or misbehaviour to the appropriate University personnel.

Participate in the arrangements for Arrivals/Departure Weekends etc.

Miscellaneous

Undertake any relevant training necessary to the position.

Undertake further personal development/training in security.
