You will work autonomously but will be supported by a team of CNSs and other MDT members delivering an exceptional standard of nursing care for patients and their families throughout the cancer patient pathway. You will further develop skills enabling you to practice at an advanced clinical level, both in your own clinical practice and as a role model to others as an UGI cancer Key Worker.

Working with the Upper GI cancer CNS team, you will initiate and support Service development and improve patient experience based on emerging and best practice models of care which is responsive to patient feedback and audit findings.

You will be expected to play a leading role in ensuring the team comply with local and national policy, clinical governance and Peer review.

You will work collaboratively with referring GPs and all members of the extended multidisciplinary team including; imaging departments, medical and surgical consultants, clinical nurse specialists, research teams, acute oncology, specialist palliative care, ward nursing teams and administrative teams.
- Provide specialist nursing advice and support to patients in Upper GI tumours and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients/clients and relatives/carers, both inpatients and outpatients, without supervision in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team in line with local and national targets.
- The post holder will provide specialist nursing care within the surgical and oncology setting and support and deputise for their line manager in the management of their clinical speciality. This will involve dealing with complex situations and having to take appropriate action in a variety of settings.
- To be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and to provide cover for any area specified acting as professional role model providing direct and indirect clinical care, teaching and research.
- To develop the clinical nurse specialist role in accordance with local and national policy and ensure the needs of patients and their families are central to service improvement initiatives
