Operated by Digital Advantage, DISC is the Digital Independent Specialist College, a new and unique opportunity to help young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to move towards working in the creative and digital economy. Based in the city centre of Manchester, DISC is a creative and digital studio providing supported work-based learning to help talented young people fulfil their potential and their dreams.
DISC is for young people with SEND aged 16-24 who love creative and digital work and who would thrive in a professional, work-based learning environment, who love learning by doing and making and who want to develop their core skills to help them into the workplace.
We are a professional and agile organisation seeking committed staff members who share our goal to improve the life chances of young people with SEND.
**Job Purpose**:
**To ensure all students achieve high standards of learning and well-being and to provide high quality education and care in any area of DISC. With a main additional responsibility of Transition Lead. More detail of requirements are available in the below documents**:
**Purpose of the post**
To work under the guidance/instruction of **designated teachers/ Head of College **to implement agreed intern support and work programmes with individuals/ groups, to enable access to learning for students within DISC. To assist the teacher in the management of students and work which may be carried out in the studio or outside the main teaching area. Special responsibility for support in relation to Post Internship and Intern volunteering opportunities.
The role may also require postholders to plan and deliver learning activities for interns as individuals or in groups as well as monitoring, assessing, recording and reporting on student’s achievements.

**Support for the Young People**
1. Establish rapport and respectful, trusting relationships with students, acting as a role model and setting high expectations
2. Supervise and support students to undertake agreed learning activities / programmes linked to local and national curriculum and personal learning strategies across the setting
3. Assist with supervision before and after College, at breaks and lunch.
4. Adjusting activities according to student responses and needs, particularly taking account of the objectives in the EHCP and how the students’ needs may vary on different days
5. The role may include supporting and implementing student’s personal programmes, relating to social, health, physical, hygiene and welfare matters, and appropriate communication methods
6. To ensure safety, welfare and personal care are attended to with dignity, empathy and respect. The students may also need assistance to access different areas of. Following appropriate training, to administer first aid to students in line with college procedures
7. Promote inclusion and acceptance of all students by encouraging them to interact with each other and to engage in activities led by the teacher.
8. Support the effective use of ICT in learning activities and develop students’ competence and independence in its use.
9. To be aware of and support the implementation of individual support programmes; e.g. Behaviour Plans, sensory diets, therapy programmes etc
10. Promote self-esteem and independence amongst students.
11. Provide feedback to students on their progress towards their step targets, destinations, qualification goals and achievement of their EHCP targets under the guidance of a teacher, in line with college policy.
**Support for the Teaching Staff**
1. Establish constructive relationships with parents and carers, promoting the College’s home/college liaison policy.
2. Assist the teacher with the preparation of teaching and learning materials and resources. Prepare, maintain and use equipment/resources required to meet the lesson plans/learning activity and assist students in their use.
3. Provide detailed feedback to teachers on students’ achievement, progress, problems etc. as requested
4. Undertake student record keeping as requested, and assist with the collation of student reports as requested by the teacher, which may involve data inputting of attendance, progress measures and recording impact.
5. Maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive inclusive environment, in accordance with lesson plans.
6. Assist with the display and sharing of students’ work
7. Administer and mark straightforward routine tasks and invigilate tests as required.
