Radiology Assistant

An opportunity has arisen for a reliable clinical and administrative assistant to join the Radiology Team at Kettering General Hospital. This post is a development role. The expectation will be that the post holder will undertake training specific to Nuclear Medicine and complete a competency assessment. Once satisfactory competence has been signed off the uplift to band 3 will be authorised.
You will facilitate in the smooth organisation of the Nuclear Medicine department including making appointments, liaising with patients, doctors and other hospital staff.
You will also have the opportunity to work in Ultrasound and X-Ray, to support Radiographers and Radiologists in clinical and non-clinical environments. You will be required to maintain good team working and be responsible for administration tasks related to imaging examinations.
Welcoming patients to the department.
Assist patients in dressing and undressing, use of toilet facilities and chaperoning, as required. Ensure privacy and dignity of patients is maintained throughout their visit.
Undertake administrative duties in relation to the patient’s examination using the Radiology Information System. This will include liaising with Consultants and Radiologists.
Booking appointments and keeping regular checks on the appointment diary and waiting lists.
Speaking to patients on the telephone and sorting out queries.
Assisting the radiographer during examinations and preparing equipment for examinations.
Checking stock levels and cleaning clinical areas.
Participating in contamination monitoring, daily camera checks, TLD distribution, ordering isotopes and checking radiopharmaceutical doses.

Development role with specific training for Nuclear Medicine. Once satisfactory competence has been signed off the uplift to band 3 will be authorised.
The post holder will work mainly between Nuclear Medicine and Ultrasound. Working in other areas of Radiology may be required from time to time.
**Main responsibilities**:
Support Radiographers and Radiologists during Ultrasound examinations.
Be responsible for administration tasks related to imaging examinations.
Ensure record keeping is accurate and legible and maintains patient confidentiality in line with Trust Policy and the Data Protection Act.
Facilitate in the smooth organisation of the Nuclear Medicine department, including making appointments, liaising with patients, doctors and other hospital staff.
Undertake administrative duties in relation to patient examinations, using the Radiology Information System. This will include liaising with Consultants and Radiologists (NGH/KGH), to ensure patient information and protocols are agreed.
**Book appointments**: ensuring efficient use of appointment slots and sending out correct appointment letters / information leaflets in a timely manner.
Speak to patients on the telephone to ensure they can attend appointments. Answer patient queries and address any special needs relating to the patient.
Assist the radiographer in preparing equipment for examinations. Support the patient during procedures and look after the patient post procedure.
Assist patients in dressing and undressing, use of toilet facilities and chaperoning, when required. Ensuring privacy and dignity of patients is maintained throughout their visit to the department.
Act as a chaperone during intimate examinations, when required.
Maintain the general tidiness of the reception area, check stock levels and clean clinical areas.
Participate in contamination monitoring and daily camera checks in Nuclear Medicine.
Responsible for distributing/collecting Nuclear Medicine TLDs and sending them over to NGH for analysis.
Order radioisotopes from NGH on a weekly basis and check/amend orders for the next day.
Complete the in-house training course for checking radiopharmaceutical doses. Check doses prior to patient administration, under the supervision of a HCPC registered Radiographer.
Complete In-house fire officer training. Act as fire officer for the department.
Participate in Ultrasound and X-Ray out-of-hour rotas, if necessary, in order to provide 7 day 24/7 cover.
Attend mandatory and departmental training.
Follow hospital and departmental standard operating procedures within all work area s. Attend departmental meetings and be actively involved in the improvement of the service
