StokeonTrent, United Kingdom Edens care Full time

Would you be instrumental in enabling people in their community to live as independently as possible? Are you the kind of person who wants more out of your job? Are you looking for a career that makes a real difference to people's lives in your community?

As a specialist passenger assist you will be responsible supporting vulnerable people on transport within the Stoke on Trent catchment.

We are looking at allocating 1:1 support for some pupils to transport to special education schools.

All of the pupils have special educational needs, mainly autism but they have challenging behavior's so we require assistants to travel with them in the vehicles who are able to manage the behavior's presented. Ideally the staff providing the support will have MAPA training (or equivalent). Some of our pupils also have epilepsy so we would also require for those pupils for the staff to have epilepsy rescue medicine administration training so in the event medicines need to be administered they could be. These medicines are classed as controlled drugs.

For transport, we would request the assistant to go to the pupils home address in the morning for an agreed time in order for our transport to collect both the assistant and the pupil. The transport would take the pupil to school and then return the assistant back the pupils home address. For the return journey in the afternoon, we would collect the assistant from the pupils home address before heading to school to collect the pupil to bring them home. Some pupils are allocated solo transport meaning there would only be the pupil and assistant in the vehicle, whereas others would be transported on ‘group’ transport, travelling with other pupils from the same area going to the same school. For group transport, 1:1 assistants would only be required to support the pupil allocated to them. There will be another assistant on the vehicle that supports the other pupils.
