**The Company**:
SFG20 provides a web-based software platform to make building maintenance schedules available to service engineers in the field as well as to design engineers. Over 800 organisations subscribe to SFG20, including museums, libraries, councils, retailers, the NHS and manufacturers. SFG20 is headquartered in Penrith, Cumbria and has an office in central London.

SFG20 has a dominant market position in building maintenance instructions, maintenance scheduling and costing. SFG20 has ambitious plans to continue to grow revenue by 40% per annum over the next three years.

The property and construction markets in the UK and around the world are changing. Data regarding assets is now starting to move through the Design, Build and Operate phases of a building. The Smart Building initiative is revolutionising energy consumption and maintenance.

SFG20 plans to be at the heart of this new world, and the Technical Author role is central to achieving that objective.

**Role Overview**:
The post holder will be responsible to the SFG20 Technical Content Manager. The role encompasses the management and provision of technical advice to internal groups and to members, the facilitation, writing and maintaining of technical publications and the research, revision and creation of FM and building services schedules.

Ideally, from a mechanical or facilities management background, the post holder will work in the Technical Team with the wider SFG20 team and maintenance industry to revise and develop schedules to continually grow the dynamic library within SFG20.

The following information provides a guide to the remit and responsibilities:

- Research, develop, revise and create maintenance-related content for BESA’s highly successful SFG20 product.
- Continually review technical and legislative/statutory requirements, revising and creating SFG20 maintenance schedules accordingly to align with changes in the industry, including schedule and task descriptions, maintenance actions, maintenance intervals and time taken to carry out listed maintenance.
- Collation and analysis of technical issues, trends and updates based on this analysis.
- The provision of technical advice to SFG20 subscribers, BESA members, staff and other parties.
- Keeping abreast of relevant developments relating to the technical and safety aspects of the building services sector.

**Qualifications**:
Graduate level or equivalent industry experience.

**Experience - Essential**:

- Experience of working as a mechanical maintenance/installation engineer, or mechanical building services engineer.
- A sound working knowledge of the technical requirements of mechanical building services maintenance.
- A sound working knowledge of the requirements of Facilities Management, particularly in relation to mechanical installations.
- A sound working knowledge of current regulations, industry standards and codes of practice.
- A sound working knowledge of building handover documentation such as operation and maintenance manuals, record drawings, manufacturers’ literature, and test certificates.

**Desirable**:

- Good working knowledge/understanding of H&S requirements of the building services sector.
- Good working knowledge/understanding of Building Fabric requirements in relation to Facilities Management.
- A good network of industry professionals operating within buildings services consultancies, contractors and manufacturers.

**Skills and Abilities - Essential**:

- Use knowledge, experience and research skills to interpret legislation, standards, best practice guides, etc. to draft, edit and produce SFG20 technical documentation.
- Ability to break down complex topics and communicate them in a coherent manner.
- Communicate effectively with a broad range of technical experts in the Facilities Management and Building Services sector.
- Understand the needs and requirements of users and tailor documentation accordingly.
- Adapt to changes quickly with flexibility to update documentation to reflect changes in the industry.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills.
- Excellent IT skills - experience of using Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat extensively; a high level of computer-literacy is also required.
- An enquiring mind with an interest in technical innovation within the sector.
- Attention to detail and a proactive approach to work.
- Willing attitude and readiness to take on new challenges.
- Commercially aware.
- A commitment to continuously improving skills and staying updated on industry trends and best practices in technical writing.

**Other**:

- Hold a full UK driving licence.
- Travel with occasional overnight stays.
