**About The Role**

We have a several exciting opportunities within one of Hounslow’s specialist services. Feltham Young Offenders is looking for confident and enthusiastic library assistants to join their growing and dedicated team to the deliver the library service to all units within the prison. A new library has been built to provide a more bespoke library service to the younger population within the prison, expanding the provision and opportunities for the whole population to access reading and educational materials. You will be working in the challenging but rewarding environment, supporting the Prison Librarian and Senior Library Assistants to deliver a first-class service throughout the prison. This role is ever changing and evolving to suit the needs of the library users and it is an exciting time for the library team as they plan and provide a wider library service to the prison population.

**Key Responsibilities**:
1. Offer advice and guidance to students on the use of library materials, including recommending and choosing suitable titles and information, ensuring the best possible visitor experience and acting as the first point of contact for all customer enquiries.

2. To provide a mobile library service to all units as and when required and updating the stock as necessary.

3. Participate in the delivery of activities for library users in line with the prison contact.

4. Train and supervise library orderlies on their library duties.

**Your Skills**:
1. Ability to work calmly, quickly and accurately under pressure and deal constructively with difficult and challenging behaviour.

2. Willingness to attend training at Feltham Young Offenders on all prison procedures and rules.

3. Ability to work flexibly, manage time and balance conflicting priorities.

**Professional Qualifications**:
English A-C GCSE or equivalent or able to demonstrate an equivalent level of attainment through qualification or experience in a relevant discipline.

**Essential for The Role**:
Enhanced DBS

This post is considered by the authority to be a customer-facing position; as such it falls within scope of the Code of Practice on English language requirement for public sector workers. The council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements.
