We have an exciting opportunity for a highly organised Accounts Assistant to join the Finance Team based at our Head Office based in Eastbourne supporting the daily financial operations of the company, assisting with finance related queries and providing essential administrative support to the team.
This role sits within our busy and evolving Finance Team situated at our Head Office which supports a network of over 190 branches nationwide as well as our ecommerce businesses which have been growing significantly in recent years. **What does the role of Accounts Assistant involve?**
Reporting to the Finance Reporting Manager, this role is an integral support function to our Financial Accounts team with daily duties including completing reconciliation of bank accounts, maintaining ledgers, following up and corresponding with Branches, transactional processing duties (invoices, expenses, payments etc), monitoring daily communications and dealing with finance related queries as well as supporting Branch colleagues, Head Office departments and third parties.
**Additional responsibilities will include**:
- Verifying and maintaining all necessary records for invoices, expenses, payments and transactions
- Monitoring daily communications and dealing effectively with finance related queries
- Owning the recording, maintenance and documentation of certain bank transactions, including Direct debits and electronic fund transfers
- Reconciliation of bank accounts, investigating and resolving reconciling items in a timely manner, escalating issues where appropriate to ensure prompt resolution
- Preparing and processing journals.
- Working with colleagues across the Finance function and wider business to complete elements of the monthly reporting process and routine daily/weekly management reports.
- Supporting year-end finalisation and Trial balance preparation
- Assisting with compliance requirements for Finance, including statutory financial reporting, external audit process, VAT, Corporation Tax, CIS
- Involvement in finance & reporting projects
- Helping to document and maintain Finance procedures, updating and implementing changes where necessary
**Who we are looking for**:
- Previous administration experience in a finance role
- Knowledge and experience of financial accounting, statutory accounts and balance sheet reconciliation
- Data management experience with strong analytical capabilities
- Clear attention to detail and ‘right first time’ approach
- Strong MS Excel skills
- Willingness to use initiative to resolve issues and seek solutions
- The ability to manage own time effectively and work to deadlines, with excellent organisational and prioritisation skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Ability to work within a team environment as well as being proactively independent
- Desire for continual improvement, embracing technology and driving efficient ways of working
