The post-holder is required to drive vehicles up to a gross laden weight of 7.5 tonnes, in the transportation of various cargo mainly throughout the Blackpool, Wyre & Fylde at over 50 different locations, but extending also to other NHS sites within the country. The duties are of a routine nature, although ad-hoc requirements are appropriate, and there exists a specific need to work within scheduled routines with very exact timescales.

- Transportation of Hospital Case Notes
- Transportation of Specialised Equipment
- Delivery and collection of mail.
- Transportation of Patient Belongings
- Transportation of Clean / Dirty Laundry
- Transportation of medication / controlled drugs / nuclear medicine
- Keeping all training up to date

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is ideally situated just a forty five minute drive from Manchester. The Trust provides services to the 440,000 residents of Blackpool, Fylde & Wyre and North Lancashire, as well as specialist tertiary care for Cardiac and Haematology patients.

- These Items are of an extremely sensitive nature and there exists a specific responsibility to ensure their safekeeping, certain delivery and total confidentiality.

**These items may be transported in isolation and without assistance and therefore specific removal / loading / and delivery methods must be adopted. In some cases it may be necessary for the post-holder to acquire assistance throughout the journey, from an associated technician.

**These items must be signed for upon receipt and by the recipient on delivery. In the interim the post-holder will be responsible for the safe-keeping of these items, ensuring at all times that they are not accessible or visible to the general public or otherwise.

Throughout the various locations for delivery / collection of the above items it will be necessary for the post-holder to liaise with a variety of personnel, including Clinical / medical / clerical staff.

Transport, load, and unload various items of cargo to, into and from vehicles, delivering the same to the required destination. These tasks can often involve the movement of very heavy and bulky items, and as such great care is needed at all times to ensure safety of both personnel and property.

Comply with Road Traffic Act 1968, with regard to reporting any defects that may effect road-worthiness, safety of cargo and / or personnel, immediately to the Facilities Manager or recognised deputy / assistant. Record all defects in the associated manner.

Complete vehicle logbooks with the required detail at the commencement and cessation of each working day, and in accordance with Tacograph legislation deliver the associated discs to the Transport Manager / Facilities Manager at the end of each 21-day period.

Undertake routine vehicle maintenance checks and rectification of any deficiencies as follows

Daily - Check lights, oil, water, fuel (visual check on tyres)

Weekly - Actual check of tyre pressures

Be responsible for and ensure vehicle security at all times, when not in attendance during work routine, and at the end of each working day ensure that the vehicle is parked in accordance with Trust Policy and general traffic by-laws. Be responsible also for ensuring the vehicle is locked and keys are returned to the Transport Department.

The transportation of goods requires the manoeuvring of vehicles in very congested areas, often densely populated with pedestrian traffic and therefore extreme caution is required at all times.

Provide short-term mentor / training support to new recruits in regard to the schedules of collections and delivery and the associated locations.

The post-holder will be required to handle some day to day contingencies as part of the normal routine, ensuring that any matters of a more serious nature are reported to the Transport Officer or associated deputy.
