Cambridge, United Kingdom Trinity College, Cambridge Full time

The College is seeking to appoint a friendly and courteous Assistant Porter to join the Porter’s Lodge. Trinity is the largest of the 31 Cambridge Colleges and is home to some 700 undergraduates, 400 postgraduates and about 190 Fellows: the College staff number around 350 staff. Trinity has changed greatly over the centuries, but the strong academic tradition has been maintained and College life is lively and diverse. Porters are the “public” face of the College and so are required to treat everyone with respect, dignity and fairness whilst delivering first class customer service. Porters hold key front-line roles ensuring a welcoming, safe, and well-ordered environment with the Porter’s Lodge very much at the heart of the College.

The post holder will assist with the supervision of those accessing the College, deliver scripted tours for tourists (to designated areas of College) communicating important features and facts as well checking for unauthorised parking.

We are looking for a positive, well-presented person who enjoys being part of team, is self-motivated, and has excellent communication skills. You must be approachable, genuinely enjoy interacting with a diverse range of people treating each person with dignity, respect and fairness and able to develop appropriate and productive relationships.

The role can involve walking considerable distances as well as standing for long periods of time, sometimes in inclement weather.

Experience of safety and security and the ability to deliver exacting standards of customer service are essential.

Hours of work are 40 per working period, working 5 days on, 5 days off. Full uniform is provided.

Rate of pay: £18,386 per annum pro rata (£26,313 FTE) plus additional benefits which include:

- Contributory workplace pension with generous employer contributions (up to 16%)
- Free meal when on duty
- Cycle to work scheme

- Access to a staff wellbeing and employee assistance programme for staff and their families
- A range of family friendly procedures and policies including generous maternity benefits
