**Job summary**:
Risk Management Directorate (RMD) defines the Department’s risk management framework that sets clear accountabilities and describes the culture that enables the consistent understanding, escalation and management of risks to the Department’s objectives.

We focus on supporting management of risk to assist DWP in meeting its objectives, taking proper account of cost, benefits and proportionality. Strengthening co-ordination and the collective focus on a range of growing and overlapping risks, to ensure consistency with DWP’s risk management framework, the team provides support to fully embed the practice of effective risk management.

This post offers an excellent opportunity to engage and work with leaders, policy owners and stakeholders from across the organisation to ensure effective risk management and compliance arrangements are in place across the Department. The focus of this role is to embed and further improve risk management by supporting Assurance Managers and internal customers to adopt and implement good risk management practice.

Working with partners, RMD fosters transparent and effective collaboration within DWP and across departments to enhance consistency of approach, build capability and leverage our response to risk management. RMD’s role, on behalf of the whole of DWP and the Chief Risk Officer, is to maximise the impact of DWP to deliver its objectives, driving evidence-based, effective decision-making, enabling a robust risk management culture and practices. Working in RMD offers an exciting opportunity to gain a unique insight into the workings of the Department. You will build a wide-ranging network of contacts, enabling you to demonstrate personal impact with senior leaders, influence decision-making, and enhance your analytical and critical thinking skills.

**Job description**:
As a Risk Management Advisor working within DWP, you will develop expertise in risk management, collecting and analysing information that informs our understanding of risk and supports the development of, and improvements to, prioritisation and decision making.

You will report to the Risk Assurance Account Manager (SEO) who will support you in developing strong, cross-departmental stakeholder relationships to build understanding for your work and that of the wider RMD function.

This fast paced, high-profile role presents an excellent opportunity to test and demonstrate a wide range of competencies to deliver real-time impacts through; big-picture thinking, good analytical, strategic and critical focus, effective communication and stakeholder management skills.

**Person specification**:

- The following are examples of work you will undertake within the Risk Management Directorate role:
- Be responsible for supporting delivery, continuous improvement and reporting on a risk control assessment programme of work to senior leaders;
- Take the lead in supporting internal customers to develop effective risk management behaviours and to use best practice methodologies, tools and techniques.
- Support with analysis and insights to provide your team, and the Chief Risk Officer, to ensure that the Executive Team, Directorate leadership teams, senior forums and the risk community can take informed decisions about risk management.
- Develop skills to help visualise an organisational view of risk management, the effectiveness of controls and assurance.

- Good analytical skills, with the ability to understand and interpret information from a variety of sources.
- Leadership attributes that support continuous improvement of relevant standards and processes.
