We are excited to advertise a new role for a Scientist Training Programme (STP) Trainee. There has never been a more exciting time to join our Aseptic Services team at The Christie NHS Foundation trust.

The Christie NHS Trust is a world leader in the production of phase one clinical trial materials and in the Pharmacy Aseptic Services Unit we prepare an extensive portfolio of hundreds of Clinical Trials alongside Early Access Medicines, Free of Charge products and Compassionate use schemes.

The suitable applicant should be highly motivated and show accurate attention to detail. They should be organised and able to prioritise work effectively showing excellent interpersonal and communication skills. There is a considerable commitment to training within this role and therefore great enthusiasm towards continuing development with the ability to inspire others is essential. They must have appropriate GMP knowledge for the level of activities that are conducted. All training must be provided against approved procedures and instructional documents within the GMP quality system.

This role is key to ensuring that all production personnel receive appropriate training and education. Induction and on the job training is required prior to operators commencing production activities and is thereafter continuously monitored by this post holder.

In conjunction with and supported by the designated Training Coordinator/Officer, the Trainee Healthcare Scientist will be responsible for
- their own progression through the training programme
- completing the learning outcomes as outlined in the Learning Guides
- progressing through a mixture of work-based competence and experience in NHS scientific departments
- undertaking the complementary academic master’s programme at the designated Higher Education Institution.

The post holder will be expected to undertake a range of demanding scientific and clinical functions initially under supervision, as well as occasional duties in response to specific elements of the curriculum. A major part of the training and development will take place within a designated organisation (linked to a specific scientific department) and is integrally linked to the knowledge and applied learning that forms

part of the nationally commissioned academic master’s programme. Post holders will also be expected to undertake mandatory training as deemed necessary by their host department.

The Aseptic team is a diverse and dynamic team who work in a specialised cleanroom environment where teamwork is the key to efficiency and managing the patient experience. Each day is both challenging and rewarding in equal measures, with cancer treatments constantly evolving and new types of drugs being trialled each year.

We are at the forefront of developments in terms of drug innovation and team development.

The Pharmacy department has a developed career pathway for technical staff wishing to progress as far as achievable. Helping support all qualifications and in-house training that allow for this progression should you wish to further your career within the pharmacy aseptic team.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Job statement

The trainee will undertake the full training programme in order to progress through the modules of the training scheme. In so doing they will learn how to perform and interpret clinical and specialist scientific processes underpinned by theoretical and applied knowledge and practical experience and will learn how to
- carry out complex scientific and clinical roles, including those working directly with patients
- analyse, interpret and compare investigative and clinical options
- make judgements, including clinical and differential judgements, involving complicated facts or situations that impact on patients
- initiate and undertake innovation, improvement and R&D and be involved in the education of healthcare science trainees and other learners in the workplace

They will be expected to complete all work based training and assessment alongside the academic master’s course to exit the programme with eligibility for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and use of the protected title of Clinical Scientist. In addition, they will be expected to undertake work based experience to enable them to communicate complex technical, scientific and
