The Baby Feeding Team helps families across Camden meet their goals for feeding their infants and children via breast and bottle. Families are supported via a team of infant feeding practitioners and a cohort of peer support volunteers.

The successful applicant may have contact with patients or service users. As an NHS Trust we strongly encourage and support vaccination as this remains the best way to protect yourself, your family, your colleagues and of course patients and service users when working on our healthcare settings.

**This role will require the postholder**:

- To provide clinical and practical infant feeding peer support to parents with infants and young children as part of the Camden Baby Feeding Team.
- To promote breastfeeding to pregnant people, their families and the wider community in Camden, and to provide information and support to enable parents to breastfeed their babies for as long as they wish.
- To ensure information and support provided to parents is in line with UNICEF Baby Friendly standards.
- To provide project support for attaining UNICEF Baby Friendly accreditation in Camden.
- To supervise, develop and mentor volunteers as required.

- Carry out breastfeeding and infant feeding assessments.
- Support parents to establish breastfeeding.
- Have responsibility for the prioritisation and organisation of own caseload in relation to client clinical need and making most effective use of own time.
- Contribute to the delivery of services as directed by the Baby Feeding Team Manager in line with the service specification and provide high quality information and support on infant feeding.
- Offer UNICEF Baby Friendly and NICE compliant information and support in a variety of settings; hospital wards, baby feeding drop-ins, antenatal groups; telephone and video-call support and home visiting.
- Attend Child Health Clinics when agreed to see parents alongside the Health Visitor.
- Travel to and provide services in a client’s home where clinically this is the most appropriate place for an individual parent and baby’s needs to be met.
- Carry equipment between sites and on home visits.
- Provide information and parent-centred support to parents to enable them to make informed choices in relation to how they wish to feed their babies.
- To respect individual beliefs and choices and to act in a non-judgemental fashion.
- To favour a “hands off” approach when helping parents with positioning and attachment and to only touch the parent or her baby in exceptional circumstances and with the parent’s express permission.
- To provide breastfeeding support to parents who may be experiencing significant emotional circumstances following childbirth.
- Loan breast pumps when appropriate to parents with breastfeeding problems and keep records of equipment loaned, identify problems with devices and organise maintenance
- Link families through referral & signposting to other services across Camden (e.g. Health visiting services, Starting Solids workshops, children’s centre Family Support teams, CAMHS)
- To encourage and support local parents to become involved in their local Children’s Centre
- Maintain high quality and accurate records of work undertaken with families.
- To contribute to data collection to enable the analysis of monitoring and performance data and evidence of impact, including the contribution to improving breastfeeding 6-8 week prevalence
- To adhere at all times to the principles of confidentiality and data protection
- Recruit parents as required who would like to train to be volunteer Breastfeeding Peer supporters.
- Act as a mentor and provide day-to-day support to volunteers through modelling good practice
- Promote the Baby Feeding Service during public events and activities as appropriate
- To work in accordance with Safeguarding procedures for protecting children and adults from harm.
- To undertake training relating to infant feeding, introducing solids and Healthy Start
- To participate and contribute to supervision and training programmes
