The International Strategy and Engagement Directorate (ISED) are a consolidated HQ team that lead on international strategy, delivery and advocacy in partnership with DIT’s international network.

The MEAP strategy team sits in the Emerging Markets Strategy Unit, one of 6 units that make up our directorate.

The work will be high profile, and fast moving - you will be expected to oversee several work strands simultaneously and be credible with senior level contacts across Whitehall. It is a great opportunity to be at the centre of strategic and organisational developments, and work within the Department and Whitehall to deliver Ministerial ambition.

You will be expected to demonstrate:

- Strategy and Policy, including engaging on cross government strategy development and strategic projects.
- Advocacy for the region, including becoming expert on your markets in your portfolio and responding to Ministerial requests.
- Delivery, including managing governance arrangements.

**Job description**

As the MEaP Regional Advisor in ISED you will be expected to:

- Become expert in the issues affecting your portfolio, including the wider foreign policy context, national security, prosperity and development and how these all affect our trade and investment position.
- Develop and cohere high quality strategy and policy, including through the regional trade plan process, high level governance as it relates to the region, co-ordinating leader visits.
- Being a key advocate for your region, including through development of cross government strategies, supporting cross Whitehall engagement and representation.
- You will need to be on top of delivery, for you region - leading the team to act as a Geographic hub within HQ, supporting Ministerial requests, becoming expert in your region and leading the team effectively.
- You will also be expected to design and deliver thematic project teams exploring areas of policy and strategy (according to need and your prior knowledge, skills and experience which you will bring to the team).
- Represent the Department as part of the Cross Whitehall initiative to develop a regional strategy, ensuring our interests are represented bringing together the views of stakeholders across the department, and outside of it.
- Brief Ministers and senior officials, accurately and sometimes at short notice, on the issues in the region.

**Hybrid Working**

Please be aware that this role can only be worked from within the UK and not overseas.

Informal hybrid working arrangements will be available as agreed with the vacancy manager and in line with the requirements of the role.

Most DIT employees will be working a hybrid pattern, spending 2-3 days a week (pro rata) in an office, on average. If your office location is London, you will be eligible to receive London weighting.

- Excellent briefing and communication skills, both written and oral.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise a high workload.
- Strong relationship building skills and evidence of working with stakeholders to deliver outcomes.
- Able to work flexibly with others, adapting to the changing demands of a team.

**Desirable Criteria**
- Experience or knowledge of HMG international strategy.
- Experience of working internationally or in an international facing role.
- Knowledge of DIT’s overseas network.
- Some experience of policy and/or strategy development.
