An exciting opportunity has arisen with Cancer Services for a part time Cancer Services MDT Co-ordinator.

A highly skilled and motivated individual is required to work in a busy and varied role within a team of staff who administratively manage patients through their cancer pathways. You will undertake a range of duties in relation to patients on cancer pathways from referral through to diagnosis and treatment. This involves tracking and expediting patients through their pathways and co-ordinating cancer Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings.

We are looking for a determined individual who is flexible and conscientious, who has the ability to multi-task and the ability to work on their own initiative as well as being a dedicated team player. Applicants must possess excellent communication skills, understand the importance of confidentiality and have the ability to organise themselves and others.

Applicants should have previous experience in working with a range of IT systems, preferably hospital based systems (however training will be provided) and must possess excellent communication skills and have a tenacious approach to the achievement of targets

Please note the interview for this role will include a typing test to ensure competency for live minute taking which is a vital part of the MDT Coordinator role.

To ensure that patients with cancer or suspected cancer are progressed along their diagnostic and treatment pathways in line with the national cancer waiting times targets (CWT)

To collect and record patient data for reporting to national waiting times and national clinical audit systems

To facilitate and co-ordinate the effective running of Multi Disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings.

To ensure that patients referred under the 2 week wait rule are dealt with efficiently and effectively in line with protocols and targets.

Patient Tracking

Prospectively monitor patients through their diagnostic journeys by proactively seeking and interpreting clinical, histological and imaging findings and taking the appropriate course of action in terms of appropriate progression along cancer pathways.

Identify patients for tracking on the interpretation of histological findings.

Accurately record all events along a patient’s journey anticipating delays or potential delays.

Identify, calculate and record ‘stop the clock’ events.

Communicate patient results to clinical teams as appropriate.

Inform the relevant departments of patient delays as appropriate, negotiate the early booking or rebooking of appointments as necessary - escalate issues to the Cancer Management team as appropriate in a timely manner.

Complete all required clinical data on completion of a patient’s journey.

MDT Co-ordination

Ensure a suitable venue are booked and that equipment is fully functioning

Compile agenda for MDT meetings from histological diagnosis report and clinical staff notifications. Circulate agenda and any updates promptly to attendees.

Anticipate any results required and plan/chase with appropriate clinicians/staff.

Source, collect and return patient notes, as appropriate

Participate in discussion during MDT meetings as required especially in relation to cancer waiting times targets and facilitate discussion through the display of appropriate information on screen.

Ensure the efficient set up and running of video-conferenced meetings through appropriate liaison with colleagues at other sites. (MS Teams)

Minute MDT meetings live and circulate as necessary

Action MDT outcomes as appropriate, liaising with appropriate staff and informing tertiary referral teams of relevant information.

Appointments

Provide advice to the appointments centre to interpret referrals under the 2 week wait system for suspected cancers.
