**Job overview**:
This role combines on the job learning with a Level 4 Diploma in Healthcare Science to enable apprentices to develop and demonstrate the knowledge, skills and behaviours they need to perform effectively in a Healthcare Science role.

The apprenticeship will be undertaken in collaboration with a chosen Education provider.

The qualification gives learners the opportunity to:
Develop knowledge related to the healthcare science environment and the roles and responsibilities of those who work in this environment

Develop skills related to the healthcare science environment

Develop effective study skills, including the use of reflective practice

Achieve a nationally-recognised Level 4 qualification

Develop personal growth and engagement in learning

On completion of the apprenticeship individuals will be eligible to join the Academy for HCS's (AHCS) accredited Associate Register at Level 4

Healthcare Science Apprenticeships are suited to those who are keenly interested in the welfare of others and have a caring attitude to other people, with an interest in science.

**Main duties, tasks & skills required**:
The post holder will undertake work based training in conjunction with the healthcare science associate training programme supported by the Academy of Healthcare Science.

Apprentices will complete a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate their learning and skills in practice in accordance with the apprenticeship framework.

The Lung Function and Sleep Department is a busy department and therefore will suit individuals who like to deal with a variety of tasks.
- You would be expected to:

- To assist with general laboratory duties and administration e.g. maintenance of stock levels
- To ensure accurate records of all patient investigations and attendances
- Undertake maintenance and cleaning of laboratory equipment.
- Perform lung function tests, on patients of all ages in a variety of locations including:

- Spirometry
- Response to inhaled bronchodilators
- Assessment of blood gas status (pulse oximetry and ear lobe capillary sampling)
- Issue of basic sleep monitors
- Assist senior staff in more specialised lung function procedures carried out within the lung function laboratory.
- Accurately record observations and produce technical reports on the range of tests performed.

You will need to be hard working, organised, committed to the team around you and have excellent communication skills. Punctuality and reliability in attending the workplace and college are essential.

Pearson BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Healthcare

Science

with issues within own area of competence.

Knowledge of accountability, use of relevant

SOP's policies and importance of maintaining

documentation.

A reasonable knowledge of health and safety

principles applicable in a healthcare

environment.
