Network Permit Officer

Trowbridge, United Kingdom Wiltshire Council Full time

Summary

In June 2020, Wiltshire Council introduced a new way of managing work on its highway network and we now have an exciting opportunity to join a friendly but very busy team to ensure we manage our highway network efficiently through the Wiltshire Highways Permit Scheme. There are now two positions available after the successful promotion within the team of two existing team members.

**LIVE** WORK **INNOVATE**

**About these roles**:
One role will involve working under the supervision of the Lead Network Coordinator in the Central Permit Management Team who deals with processing licenses for private contractors, managing the effective administration functions of the team, and assist in the administration behind the effective running of the Permit Scheme, including taking payments for licences, fees, and fines.

The other role will involve working in one of three coordination areas. The responsibilities will include managing all works permits in a defined geographical area and coordinating all works and activities to ensure the disruption on the highway network is minimised. Working under the supervision of a Network Coordinator and alongside the wider team, you will challenge working methods, and durations of works and make sure appropriate traffic management solutions are utilised. You will also work alongside the wider team covering peaks and troughs in works and dealing with urgent defects phoned in by the site-based Street works Technicians and help cover other areas in times of leave.

These are incredibly rewarding roles for the right person, as there are fresh challenges every day and so it is far from routine, and the impact on our customers is quickly and easily measured when reports and complaints come in about delays and queues at work sites.

**About You**:
Working in a tight-knit team, you will need to be a great team player, and possess excellent IT skills and show good and demonstrable customer service abilities. You will require an accurate and logical approach to your work in this very legislatively tightly run team. You will also be able to prioritise, multitask and have a “can do” attitude to your work.

You will ideally hold an NVQ Level 4 or equivalent in an engineering field and/or have relevant experience within a regulatory field and/or Highways background. Ideally, you will have some understanding of the New Roads and Street Works Act.

As part of the team, you will be keen to learn and want to enhance the reputation of the Council, take pride in delivering the service, and make a difference to our customers.

**Interview dates to be confirmed after shortlisting.
