Northampton, United Kingdom Northamptonshire Domestic Abuse Service Full time

_**Domestic Abuse Health Coordinator**_
- Exciting opportunity to work on a new project improving the response to domestic abuse across Health in Northamptonshire_

We know that domestic abuse has a massive impact on the health and wellbeing of victim survivors. We also know that there are vast opportunities across the healthcare system for professionals to identify domestic abuse, encourage disclosure and help individuals to get the right help and advice they need - as long as health staff have the right support, guidance and training.

In recognition of this, we are looking to recruit to a new Domestic Abuse Health Coordinator post to work with us to improve the identification of and response to domestic abuse across the healthcare system in Northamptonshire. Running for 12 months, this project will bring domestic abuse expertise into health settings and focus on increasing staffing awareness, knowledge and confidence in responding to domestic abuse; as well as creating a system wide "How to Ask" domestic abuse initiative with the aim of embedding routine enquiry into targeted teams and settings.

We are looking for a dynamic, charismatic, tenacious and passionate individual with expertise in domestic abuse, partnership working, raising awareness and training who has great interpersonal skills as well as the ability to map, plan and design service and referral pathways. Whilst this role will not be client-facing, there will be the expectation that the postholder is able and available to respond to ad hoc queries from safeguarding teams about individual cases of domestic abuse and encourage putting learning into practice to embed and maintain learning outcomes across the workforce.

Key Aims:

- To improve the identification of and response to domestic abuse across the health system in Northamptonshire.
- To develop and maximise co-working and referral pathways between Health and the specialist domestic abuse sector in Northamptonshire.
- To ensure as many victims survivors as possible have easy access to advice and support, increasing their safety, health and wellbeing, and that of their families and dependents.
- To reduce domestic abuse and the impact of abuse for families across Northamptonshire.

Key objectives:

- To identify and map the level of understanding of domestic abuse within the health workforce (within specific teams and services to be identified).
- To target key frontline and named/lead staff in Health and improve their awareness of domestic abuse, its presentations and its complexities.
- To give Health practitioners the confidence to proactively ask patients about domestic abuse and respond appropriately to disclosures.
- To promote (and develop where required) risk assessment tools for Health staff to improve identification of domestic abuse.
- To map and develop referral pathways across the health system.

**Purpose of the Post**:
1. Improve the identification of and response to domestic abuse across the healthcare system in Northamptonshire ensuring as many victim survivors as possible have easy and early access to advice and support, increasing their safety, health and wellbeing, and that of their families and dependents.

2. Work with key internal and external stakeholders to develop an embedded and sustainable best practice response to domestic abuse in Health.

3. Develop and maximise co-working and referral pathways between Health and the specialist domestic abuse sector.

4. Deliver the following project objectives:
a) To identify and map the level of understanding of domestic abuse within the health workforce (within specific teams and services to be identified).

b) To target key frontline and named/lead staff in Health and improve their awareness of domestic abuse, its presentations and its complexities.

c) To give Health practitioners the confidence to proactively ask patients about domestic abuse and respond appropriately to disclosures.

d) To promote (and develop where required) risk assessment tools for Health staff to improve identification of domestic abuse.

e) To map and develop referral pathways across the health system.
- Please note: Whilst this role will not be client-facing, and will not hold a caseload of clients, there will be the expectation that the postholder is able and available to respond to ad hoc queries from safeguarding teams about cases of domestic abuse._

**Key relationships**
- Reports to the Chief Executive NDAS.
- Works closely with the Safeguarding Team at Northamptonshire ICB and a range of safeguarding leads and staff across healthcare in Northamptonshire.
- To work in collaboration with the Domestic Abuse and Health Project steering group. The project will be overseen by a steering group including both safeguarding leads and operational staff from Health, as well as domestic abuse providers, who will guide and inform the project plan.
- The postholder will not be responsible for the management of any colleagues or direct reports.
