- Job description- We are seeking a committed, enthusiastic person with the necessary technical skills to join our busy Fisheries, Biodiversity and Geomorphology (FBG) team in Yorkshire, primarily covering South and West Yorkshire. The role includes:

- Providing technical input on a range of internal and external projects, programmes, consents and permits.
- Providing technical support on third party activities that deliver fisheries objectives and support sustainable fisheries management.
- Project management work giving advice for smaller fisheries projects

The role will operate in a South Yorkshire catchment area where engagement with a range of statutory partners, including rod licence paying customers, is critical to reputational management and outcome delivery. You will be expected to develop and influence partnerships with other organisations, as well as internally, to deliver fisheries benefits.
Although your work will be primarily office based, you will contribute to netting operations, electric surveys, and other field work.
The post will be based at Lateral, Leeds and will involve working with other officers from the Fisheries, Biodiversity and Geomorphology teams in Yorkshire, and environmental experts across the area.
As responding to incidents is a central part of what we do, you will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
- The team- You will be part of the FBG team covering West and South Yorkshire. The team promotes the conservation of water and wetland wildlife, and improvements to the environment for people. We give advice across the business and to our external customers and partners to protect and enhance the water environment. We are involved in a variety of work including inputting into major capital schemes and establishing and maintaining partnerships to deliver priority habitat creation.
- Experience/skills required
- Educated to a degree level or similar an appropriate discipline, or equivalent practical work experience and ideally membership of a relevant professional body.
- Knowledge of fisheries management and ecology of water dependent habitats and species and their ecological requirements.
- Knowledge on fish passes is desirable, as is experience in working on projects.
- You’ll also have excellent communication skills and be able to build and sustain relationships and experience of working with a range of customers, both internally and externally.
- Your excellent customer service, communications and interpersonal abilities will be complemented by your enthusiasm and ambition to achieve defined deadlines and targets.
