Huddersfield, United Kingdom University of Huddersfield Full time

Job description

**Permanent, 0.6 FTE**

An exciting opportunity exists for a University Practitioner in Popular Music, special-ising in Performance and/or Songwriting to join our Music and Music Technology (MMT) team.

We are seeking to recruit a musician with professional experience as a performer and/or songwriter, who will work part-time in the University while maintaining their professional practice in the music industry. We particularly welcome applicants with experience of teaching, ideally within higher education, and a Masters degree is a pre-requisite. We also welcome supplementary expertise in related areas such as creative music production, global musics, music business, music theatre, or live sound.

You will join a professional and motivated team to deliver teaching and learning within the Department of Music and Design Arts. You will contribute to the delivery of undergraduate and taught postgraduate courses including Music, Popular Music, Music Performance and Creative Music Production, and carry out a range of administrative tasks. Performance teaching covers individual, group, and studio performance, and songwriting classes include a range of compositional approaches, including arranging and production. Our focus is on encouraging students to find their individual voice as a creative musician.

Our students are diverse, and we welcome applicants who reflect that diversity, as well as who demonstrate commitment to enhancing student experience through facilitating student centred learning and support. You will be encouraged and supported in engaging with popular music research.

As a Practitioner we expect you to be actively engaged in practice in addition to your role at the University. This can be either through paid employment with another employer, paid consultancy or freelance work.
