As Nature Based Solutions (NBS) Advisor for Devon Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly you will work closely with an established team of flood risk and environmental specialists both internally and across partner organisations to embed this emerging area of work into our activities and projects. You will build on the work done to date both nationally and locally to mainstream the use NBS as a larger part of our toolbox to deliver flood resilience and environmental improvements.
- The role will support our Senior Advisor who leads on NBS policy locally and other specialists to build capacity within EA teams our suppliers and partners to mainstream the use of NBS across projects, environmental grants and many other delivery models locally. You will lead by example by acting as the NBS lead on several local projects.
- You will act as a point of contact for internal staff and partners to facilitate development and delivery of effective NBS schemes locally, signposting to relevant case studies, advice, or contacts to deliver effective solutions.
- You will work closely with other local colleagues to improve the cross-business working on NBS delivery and reduce obstacles to wider collaboration through better integrated catchment-based working. You will support other specialists in forming new relationships and exploring emerging areas of work to deliver NBS through.
- Locally there is a large multi-partner NBS group which is used to disseminate topical information, news, share good practice and learning. Administering and facilitating this group will be a key part of this role. We welcome applicants who wish to do the job on a part time or job share basis - we also welcome those who might wish to do the job as a 12-month secondment.

The team
- As a member of the Flood & Coastal Risk Management department in Devon Cornwall and Isles of Scilly you will join a dynamic group of Team Leaders, Advisors and Officers. We are friendly, enthusiastic and supportive and are well linked with both Area and National EA teams, local partners and are always exploring new opportunities to make a positive difference to people and environment locally.

Experience/skills required
- NBS is a rapidly evolving area of work and as such being a specialist in this is hard, nevertheless we feel there is value in having a post to dedicate resource to the opportunities these techniques provide.
- We are looking for a person who has excellent communication skills, can digest and clearly disseminate information to others.
- You will be keen to learn and adopt new ways of working, be able to think laterally to solve emerging problems and react to new policy.
- You will work collaboratively with internal staff and partners to ensure that improvements to community flood resilience are better integrated with initiatives such as carbon reduction, biodiversity net gain and delivery of Water Framework Directive goals, knowledge of all these areas will be important, but not essential.
- You will be skilled in forming partnerships and have good influencing skills to support the forging of new relationships and opportunities.
