Nursing Team and Transitions Lead
We are looking to recruit a highly motivated, innovative and enthusiastic Nursing Team and Transitions Lead to join our Healthcare Service at Oasis Restore Secure School (ORSS).
ORSS is the first Secure School in the UK and will hold 12-18 year old children. All staff work in line with ‘Child First’ principles to create a developmentally appropriate and trauma informed healthcare service. By joining our team, you will have the opportunity to be involved in developing a new service that will have a real impact on promoting health and well-being for this vulnerable population and impact on their future life orientation.
This is a leadership role responsible for the development and management of a defined skill mixed school nursing team across the Oasis Restore Secure School population. They will lead a team of nurses providing comprehensive, integrated physical health, mental health and substance misuse care to a group of children aged 12-18. They will also lead on coordinating transitions in and out of the Secure School, working closely with the Oasis Restore Navigators and Networks, and each child’s family.
It is expected that the Team Leader will carry a reduced caseload and have a commitment to health promotion, teaching and training. The Team Leader will develop effective partnerships within the Secure School and in the community, and act as an advocate to deliver change and support improvements in the health and wellbeing of children both during their time at Oasis Restore, and following this.
The post holder will have specific responsibility for the clinical leadership of all qualified and non-qualified nursing staff, working in conjunction with other professional leads to support the service to implement agreed action plans, key performance indicators, and contribute to the audit process, the implementation of clinical governance and quality monitoring within the service.
The postholder is expected to deliver, and lead on, trauma-informed, culturally sensitive care, considering the developmental needs of the children, and ensuring consideration of the impact of their experiences on their current strengths, needs and difficulties. Developing good therapeutic relationships with the children and their families, is key for this post and in the wider service delivery.
Oasis Restore is the first UK secure school enabling young people to live their best lives, through education well-being and hope. We will care for children aged 12-18 who are on remand and sentenced to custody by the courts. Oasis Restore represents a revolution in youth justice: an opportunity for children within the criminal justice system to experience a restorative environment that creates the potential for them to thrive both now and for the future. Our healthcare team will build and model healthy and trusting relationships with children that enable them to feel safe, learn and reach their full potential.
Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust is a Top Employer Award Winner. We have a Health and Justice Services Directorate, within which sits the ‘Children and Young People’ Service line working in partnership with ‘Youth Custody Service’ colleagues to provide responsive, trauma-informed primary care, mental health, neuro-developmental and substance misuse services to the young people and young adults within our care.
Please see attached JD&PS for full details of duties and responsibilities.
Be responsible for the day-to-day management for the team ensuring adequate staffing levels are maintained and a high standard of care provision is achieved.
Ensure the policies and procedures of CNWL are implemented and adhered to at all times and that team members are aware of them.
Ensure that staff perform effectively and safely meeting the requirements of the post, taking appropriate action as necessary and reporting to the Clinical Lead.
Participate in the recruitment, selection and interview process. Contribute actively to the promotion of School Nursing as a profession.
Provide support to the Clinical Service Lead, keeping them informed regularly on team developments and significant issues.
Work closely with children, their families and their professional networks to support effective transitions, in and out of the Secure School. This post will be vital in ensuring the timely and efficient sharing of key health information, in order that each child receives the appropriate care.
