Job Scope:
The Royal Society archives is engaged since 2017 in a large-scale digitisation exercise to open up its collections to a wider audience.

This is a permanent, part-time position (0.6 FTE), to coordinate the delivery of our ambitious digitisation programme. As part of the library team, the post-holder will oversee the archives to be digitised on-site, liaise on a daily basis with the external digitisation supplier, conservation specialists where required, perform quality assurance on the metadata and images to ensure that the data is correct as it goes online on our open digital platform.

Good project coordination and organisational skills are essential for this position. The post-holder will assist the digital resources manager in the delivery of the 2024-2027 digitisation programme which will include manuscript correspondence, meteorological records and institutional minutes books. The postholder will need good understanding of digitised assets and digital platforms and will be familiar with the digitisation process within archives. The post-holder will coordinate the delivery of the high-quality images hosted on the Royal Society platforms, ensuring that the digitised data collection is accurate as it goes online, good understanding of metadata, image quality, digitisation of archives and file management is therefore essential.

Additionally, as a permanent part of the library team, the post-holder may be asked to provide support for the provision of service in the Royal Society’s reading room. This post will require a minimum of two days a week in-person in the library with the possibility to work remotely the rest of the time.

An interest in archival collections and the history of science is desirable.

**Pay Band**: C

**Salary**:£18,154.20 per annum (based on a full time equivalent of £30,257 per annum)

**Hours**: Part time, 21 hours per week (0.6 FTE)

**Contract**: Permanent

**Responsibilities**:

- Coordinate the delivery of high-quality images and related metadata
- Ensure digitisation is delivered to objectives agreed with key stakeholders, monitoring and assessing progress at all stages
- To assist in the preparation of historical materials and its accompanying documentation for digitisation of at the Society’s Library.
- To liaise with suppliers and deliver following the workflows in place
- To check the quality and accuracy of both the digitised documents and the metadata compiled by our digitisation supplier, against the original manuscripts and the supplied documentation
- To assist with the management of a digital platform which hosts the digitised collection
- To report and raise any issues with the quality to line manager.
- To liaise with the supplier regarding rework, or to provide advice or review on metadata and scanning
- To perform further quality assurance as the online delivery products are developed
- Responsibility for the security, proper handling, storage and care of historical materials.
- Any other duties as required by the position
