Locum Consultant in Neonatology

Neonatal services are part of the Maternity and Perinatal Medicine directorate. The Neonatal unit is a designated Level 2/Local Neonatal Unit with 29 designated cots (5 Intensive care cots, 5 High Dependency cots and 19 Special care cots) and designated transitional care area. The Neonatal unit accepts babies from 27 weeks gestation (including most anomalies) and provides short-term intensive care including HFOV. Babies started on Nitric oxide and on Therapeutic Hypothermia are transferred to a Neonatal Intensive care unit after stabilisation. The unit undertakes high activity levels of about 3000 days intensive/high dependency care, 5270 special care days and 3200 transitional care days per year. Maternity department caters for approximately 6000 deliveries per year and has a dedicated fetal medicine unit.

Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust (SWBT) is an integrated care organisation with a budget of approximately £600 million and over 7,000 staff.
