You will be working with colleagues who manage the maintenance, facilities and safety across the large Department of Pathology consisting of dry and wet laboratories, classrooms, offices & lecture theatres. You will undertake training & increasingly over the apprenticeship, respond to breakdowns, perform preventive maintenance tasks & installation work.

The position is varied, and is required to support the departmental and core team needs, but will include duties such as:

- Learn basic skills in the area of work (e.g. use of basic workshop tools and machinery)
- Be involved with the general maintenance of the fabric of the Department, including painting, minor carpentry work, installation of benching and flooring
- Undertake preventive maintenance tasks such as air filters, water temperature checks and fume hood inspections
- Understand basic health and safety hazards and risk management within the working environment. Learn and abide by standard operating procedures and risk assessments. (E.g. workshop safety and chemical safety)
- Respond to breakdowns, perform preventive maintenance tasks & installation work. You will gain an understanding of our operations and what it takes to keep a large, busy department running

**Applicants should have a minimum of 2 GCSEs or equivalent at Grade 3/D or above including English, and Maths**

Expected duration: 27 months.
