The Family Assessment Centre will carry out parenting assessments on behalf of the Local Authority or other agencies to help make decisions about the long-term living arrangements for their children. We have a nurturing, caring approach where parents can feel supported and not judged - Our aim is always to reach the best, most appropriate outcome for each parent and child.

Parents have tailored assessments to meet the needs of their own unique family and are assessed on their capability/competence in all routine tasks involved in all aspects of caring for and protecting their child. The assessment includes observations as well as structured session work. Direct work is undertaken with immense sensitivity and respect, often dealing with complex historical issues, many of which will not have been addressed previously.

**The role**

Your role as a practitioner will involve managing a caseload of between 3 - 6 young mothers and babies within a brand new home that will be opening soon. We are hiring A Deputy manager, Lead practitioners, Practitioners and Night staff.

The role can be emotionally draining as you could be dealing with sensitive and traumatic issues such as supporting victims of Domestic abuse and Mothers with acute perinatal mental health. It can also be challenging and involve confrontation, particularly if a family does not welcome your involvement. In some cases, the family may not be ready to engage with you, and therefore not all interactions will have a positive outcome. However, enabling families to overcome wide-ranging challenges and difficult situations means that your role is extremely varied and highly rewarding. This will include collaborative working with the relevant services to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all families. Flexibility in working hours is required to meet the evolving nature of the service and families in the home.
- To assist in monitoring the progress of each family and feedback.
- Monitor mothers ability to engage with every day living and develop skills where necessary.
- Encourage the mother to take an active part in the local community, building relationships and maintaining social networks.
- General support with both mother and baby ensuring they are both safe and well.
- Prepare monthly progress reports regarding each young person’s progress, these reports must be completed to a high standard for submission to the placing authority.
- Work in partnership with other agencies and supporting Mother to attend meetings with other professionals. You will be required to attend admission and planning meetings; and attend LAC reviews ensuring all relevant paperwork is complete.
- Carry out weekly Health and Safety checks within the home with the assistance of the Mother.
- undertake regular caseload review meetings with individuals and families during home and community visits to ensure they're fully supported to progress and achieve desired outcomes
- work with social workers, colleagues, and other health and social care professionals and multi-agency networks to evaluate caseload needs and the progress that has been made
- assess parenting skills and help people to build physical and emotional caring abilities through a range of practical activities
- help children with learning and development
- enhance parents' understanding of different education and play strategies
- provide practical home management support, such as how to bathe a child properly, how to potty train, safe sleep, weaning, feeding or how to manage behaviour, crying, and parenting skills.
- provide budgeting advice to parents so they can manage their household spending
- coach, mentor and motivate families to understand the benefits of relevant activities
- maintain accurate and up-to-date administration and caseload records, including reports of all interactions
- stay with a family during a crisis situation, such as a parent being in hospital
- attend court sessions when relevant, for example in cases of child protection
- adhere to professional practice standards and legislation, including confidentiality, safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion policies
- ensure you're up-to-date on your knowledge of local service provision for appropriate signposting and referrals.

**Job Requirements**
- At least 6-12 months experience working as a support worker in one of the following areas: Domestic violence, mental health, residential care, children and families, challenging behavio
