***What you’ll be doing**
- Leading the formation of Committee agendas, advising, supporting and challenging officers to ensure work is appropriately planned and coordinated, progressing agenda items and arranging the timely and efficient dispatch of agendas.
- Preparing accurate, concise and timely minutes, ensuring their publication to appropriate organisations and individuals and prompt the execution of the decisions of the committee.
- Regularly liaising with officers and the committee chairman to support the development of work streams, the quality of committee reporting and enhance the effective management of committee meetings.
- Understanding and interpreting complex legislation making reasoned, accountable decisions in difficult situations and giving expert advice and guidance as required to officers, members and members of the public.
- Advising the committee chairs / council meetings on procedures and to ensure that the committees act lawfully and in accordance with the constitutional procedure rules.
- Providing guidance and advice to officers and to members on governance and constitutional issues in conjunction with the Monitoring Officer and Deputy Monitoring Officer(s).

**You must have**
- Demonstrable understanding of council and committee procedures and associated deadlines and political issues.
- Ability to handle complaints and resolve conflicts.
- Ability to work under exacting deadlines and to work under pressure with unsociable deadlines.
- Demonstrable diplomacy when dealing with political parties and members of the public.
- Political awareness when dealing with political parties and members of the public.
- Excellent communication skills, in particular the ability to write in plain English and the ability to prioritise workloads.
- Ability to communicate at all levels, including senior members and officers.
- Knowledge and experience of local government law, and procedures.
