We are looking for a Displays Supervisor to join our team at Tynemouth Aquarium, Tyne & Wear

Tynemouth aquarium, located on the North East coast is home to an array of animals in over 40 naturally themed exhibits from around the world from the British coast, the Mediterranean, coral reef and the tropical rainforest.

To manage the Tynemouth Aquarium Zoological Team and oversee the Tynemouth Seal Hospital to develop and maintain animal displays with enthusiasm which educate and entertain visitors achieving high standards of animal welfare and compliance with Zoo Licence standards and promotion of conservation of the marine environment.

**Duties/ Responsibilities**

**Animal Husbandry & Exhibits**

Ensure day to day management of animal husbandry through a hands -on approach.

Create displays and exhibits that are aesthetically pleasing as well as ensuring high levels of welfare for the livestock and ethically acquiring new specimens to keep the displays and exhibits new and attractive

Consideration for the animal welfare of all animals in our care

Monitor and maintain, track and manage water quality of exhibit systems and quarantine systems and maintain records of procedures and tests carried out.

Maintain clean, tidy and safe standards of all plant rooms, tool rooms, food prep rooms and quarantine facilities

Monitor nutrition, preparation, feeds and food storage for aquarium stock and meet the nutritional requirements of animals through regular review and updating of feeding regimes.

Keeping correct records for medication, treatment, mortalities, post mortems etc. As requested by the company vet and for zoo licensing purposes.

Plan and execute a safe transportation, delivery, and health checking and quarantine process when acquiring new fish.

Liaise with veterinary consultants to develop fish health protocols, and develop procedures for maintaining health records and also develop and maintain contact with a local veterinary surgeon ensuring co-operation with supply and administration of specialist treatment or antibiotics if required.

Plan and carry out research on a regular basis and keep abreast of current good practice, undertaking training as necessary

Maintain stock inventories and operate livestock breeding programmes where appropriate in line with company policies

To continuously improve the display standards throughout the collection as agreed by the Park Director and Group Curator in conjunction with the site Animal Collection Plan

Assist with the completion of approved zoological CAPEX projects within budgets and agreed timescales.

**Animal Training & Marine Rescue**

Responsible to lead the team in all aspects of animal training following positive reinforcement protocols and procedures.

Ensure a detailed daily training schedule for the Resident Harbour Seals and Primates is applied and followed meeting all Protocols and Zoological Procedures. Ensuring the training is put into practice to deliver an educational Presentation portrayed in an entertaining and fun way.

To actively control the admission of Common and Grey Seals into the Tynemouth Seal Hospital, liaising with the BDLMR group and working closely with the company vet and local vets following protocols regarding care, medication, treatments, feeds and monitoring of the animals ready for release back into the wild.

To be overall responsible for the operation of Tynemouth Seal Hopsital

**Zoological & Site Maintenance**

Responsibility for the maintenance of the Water Intake Pump, including weekly checks of the unit in the pump house.

Ensure all displays; marine related alarm systems, maintenance equipment and Life Support Systems are serviced routinely in accordance to procedures within the operations manual and adhering to Health & Safety Guidelines.

Responsible for the maintenance and continued development of the site, displays lighting and signage in displays areas
