An exciting opportunity has become available for a person interested in communication development and support for Adults with Learning Disabilities. Due to our current assistant leaving to complete her training to become a qualified Speech and Language Therapist we want to welcome a creative and committed individual to our supportive team.

You will provide both clinical and administrative support to qualified therapy staff within the Speech and Language Therapy, Community Learning Disability Team. To implement and progress agreed planned communication programmes, develop carer communication skills in relation to them supporting our clients, participate in SLT training delivery and work in collaboration with other services to develop high functioning communication environments.

To undertake specific skilled Speech & Language Therapy support work to promote the communication skills and development of clients with Learning Disabilities. To work in collaboration with client, family and carers according to specific strategy plans e.g. Signing development, Intensive Interaction, embedding communication aid use etc. You will monitoring patient progression, making minor alterations to patient treatment programmes as required. To work without direct supervision within the Speech and Language Therapy team, undertaking tasks delegated by a qualified therapist. To continually monitor and report changes in the patient’s presentation and to report back patient progress and inform therapist of any concerns. To maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation. To provide administrative support as necessary and produce client-based resources including communication symbols boards, social stories, information leaflets. You will also support training sessions and be expected to contribute to discussion regarding service development. You will be responsible for maintaining the waiting list spreadsheet.

You will also be a key part of the implementation of 5 good communication standard projects responding to external services development of their communication environments.

- To delivery Speech and Language therapy tasks delegated and supported by a qualified therapist.
- To promote the Speech and Language Therapy role within the CLDT and wider community.
- To provide training to other professionals, patients, carers and families regarding the management and care of patients with communication difficulties under direction of qualified staff
- To participate in the delivery of Speech Therapy training sessions.
- To plan and deliver Speech and Language Therapy groups under direction of qualified staff
- To implement and engage in 5 Good communication standards projects.
- To complete administration tasks and resource development
