The SIU is a fascinating and exciting place to work. The department is a unique function with South East Policing, providing intelligence support to operations in Force, ROCU and across partners.

The current vacancy is for a dedicated Communications SPOC (specific point of contact) working within the SIU. Previous experience in this field is not essential with training and development opportunities provided throughout.

The department support operations in the highest harm and threat areas, exploiting and enhancing intelligence from multiple sensitive data sources, including the interception of communications from Targeted Intercept (TI) and Targeted Equipment Interference (TEI), to problem solve and maximise enforcement opportunities.

Identifying risks and threats to people is also a key part of the role. We provide intelligence support to assist in the prevention and management of Threats to Life (TTL) in order to safeguard vulnerable people.

The SIU manages intelligence against tasked operations for South East Policing. This is an exciting and unique role where you will gain first-hand knowledge of Serious and Organised Crime and lead intelligence collection against our highest priorities. The work conducted by the SIU delivers significant operational results day in day out.

Due to the high harm and threat the SIU operate in, the department can often be an exhilarating and fast moving working environment. We work with innovative technology and constantly evolve to keep up with the ever-growing complexity and sophistication of organised crime.

As a member of SIU staff, you will work to exploit all relevant information from sensitive intelligence sources in order to produce actionable and timely intelligence so that SEROCU can continue to disrupt organised criminals who pose the highest risk to the UK.

Whether it is identifying and disseminating intelligence around firearms, cash or a drugs handover, an organised immigration crime attempt, or an opportunity to identify a person of interest, the input of SIU staff ensures that when the operational teams deploy they achieve the greatest impact and value to an investigation.

**Responsibilities**
- Receive, assess, develop and disseminate intelligence and information within the Sensitive Intelligence Unit ensuring any high-risk issues are rapidly identified.
- As part of a centre of excellence, provide advice and support to raise corporate standards in relation to the administration and management of sensitive intelligence. Ensure compliance of all staff entering the Sensitive Intelligence Unit complies with associated codes of practice, force policy and legislation.
- Support operational SIOs and assist Investigation teams in relation to relevant intelligence work associated with the Sensitive Intelligence Unit, ensuring strict adherence to the safeguards in place in relation to the management of information. Provide the senior management team with an appropriate briefing to ensure that they can maintain a high level of oversight regarding covert policing activity within the Force. Attend Regional TCG and National meetings to identify good practice and formulate common standards.
- Act as the organisation’s Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for retrieving communications data, having successfully completed the necessary accreditation course and ensuring that the data obtained is stored in accordance with both the relevant Code of Practice and TVP Policy thereby ensuring legal compliance on the part of YVP, SEROCU & CTPSE. Recognise the potential of communications data and implement methods of development and exploitation.

**Required knowledge/skills**
Essential
- Has attended or is able to attend and pass Intelligence Officer enhanced course.
- Section 57 IPA briefed by the appropriate agencies and attend and successfully complete a Product Handling Course (training will be provided).
- Accredited Communications Data SPOC with current P.I.N. and knowledge of communications industry*
- Proven ability to demonstrate high standards of integrity, confidentiality and flexibility.
- Proven knowledge in respect of the European Convention of Human Rights, the Human Rights Act and related case law.
- Proven experience in covert policing under the Investigatory Powers Act & Regulation of Investigatory powers Act 2000.
- Must have capability to travel to different locations across the SEROCU region (Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire and Thames Valley) and any other part of the UK and Europe as directed and undertake all assignments in a timely manner.
